First, I have nothing but complete respect for Ken Thompson. May I observe that he gets his paycheck from Google, and they are a Linux shop.
If Ken worked for Yahoo or Netflix and installed FreeBSD, it would imply the exact same that you have inferred.

Careful there :-)
I still use telnet to verify Port 25. Telnet is largely replaced by SSH. But, I assure you SSH is used, by humans, 100K times per day and more

Thanks for the inputs. I did find several blogs that recommended specific new wifi cards (both the internal install type and the UCB plug type) I bought and installed 3 of them. They did show up on the install, but then never worked. Really could be a pilot error, but been using *BSD for 30 years

Sorry, I'm still getting used to the character limit. I tried to install FreeBSF on my new framework laptop about a year ago. And ran into the typical Wi-Fi issues. I bought several of the recommended replacement parts and plugged them in. They seem to work, but no Wi-Fi. For now FreeBSD on servers.

@secularmonk.org.za I know this is going to sound like an incompetent, but I'm usually pretty good at all these system issues. After all, I do manage multiple online cloud servers. And I read a lot of code. Been doing so for more than 30 years.

Thank you. Useful inputs. Much appreciated.
Currently, I am avoiding containers for several reasons. YMMV :-)

BTW, I like Sendmail, I'm just not smart enough to make work well. :-)

I am a UNIX expert who worked on the original POSIX standard (IEEE 1003 UN*X).
I now use Linux 99% of the time, I would somewhat prefer to use FreeBSD but far too many essentials require the Linux services installed, so what's the point
And, a qubile, FreeBSD installs Sendmail by default.

Bluesky: so far, so good. More like X than FB, but I basically like the experience thus far. Blocked a few dodgy followers, but nothing major.
The average IQ of conversations seems much higher than other unsocial media.
Give it time and see.

I don't know what your application is, but I have found some stars on Fiverr. And I hire a lot of this kind of talent. I usually start with a small, low cost project. Then hire 3 to 5 best choices. Usually one shiny star comes through and I hire them ongoing.
