There’s no question Amanda Kramer’s latest is definitely one of the weirdest films that I’ve seen so far from 2025. While it isn’t 100% successful in what it sets out to do, it’s an enjoyably strange satirical comedy with a unique premise. The cast were all pretty game in their roles. 3/5 #MIFF2025

I haven’t played the video game that this is based on but regardless, I really dug this a lot. Even though it could’ve been trimmed by a few minutes to tighten the pacing, this is a riveting and creepy horror film that immerses you into it so much, that you feel like a participant too. 4/5 #MIFF2025

As someone who wasn’t a fan of BARBARIAN, Zach Cregger’s follow-up is a massive step up in every way. Despite some story aspects I easily figured out, this is a truly terrific horror film that’s creepy, twisted, darkly hilarious, intense, sprawling and atmospheric. The cast were all great. 4.5/5

While both Dave Franco & Alison Brie give great performances and there’s some memorable gooey moments, sadly it didn’t quite live up to the potential that it could’ve had due to its clucky script not exploring more of its concept/themes. Plus, the tonal shifts can be rather jarring at times. 2.5/5

Yeah, I found this a mix-bag. While it’s darkly humorous and uncomfortably creepy film that has really good performances from its cast, it doesn’t do anything that we haven’t seen before in other similar films. Plus, the third act, while amusing, really stretched credibly for me. 2.5/5 #MIFF2025

While Richard Linklater’s latest does come off feeling like a stage play at times and some of the cultural references felt a bit on the nose, I still found it a really enjoyable and funny biopic on Lorenz Hart regardless. Ethan Hawke’s terrific performance as Hart elevates the film. 3.5/5 #MIFF2025

Before I check out my next batch of films today at MIFF 2025, I’m going to the regular cinema to check out a double of both WEAPONS and TOGETHER.

As someone who has been hot-and-cold on Kelly Reichardt’s work, this is definitely one of her strongest efforts for me. While it drags a bit in the third act, it’s still a really enjoyable and witty heist film that shows off Reichhardt’s more playful side. The ending was pitch perfect. 4/5 #MIFF2025
