I suspect it's more likely due to the fact that Japanese tends to either drop objects from sentences and rely on context clues, or restate them outright for emphasis. One of many reasons why direct, literal translations from Japanese come off so oddly in English.

I feel quite comfortable and confident in stating, without qualification, that no one unironically who uses the word "meritocracy" has merit of any kind worth considering.

Any self-professed fan of NIN who uses capitals to refer to the band in any context other than the NIN abbreviation (e.g. Nine Inch Nails rather than nine inch nails) should be regarded with deep, DEEP suspicion. And possibly reported to the authorities.
