Oh it was massively OTT but it did work in terms of the goal being to get you to remember the actual message. Like we can all quote them.
"If you hit me at 30mph there's an 80% chance I'll live" and pretty much anyone my age or older will instantly be able to describe the ad to you.

People who did not grow up in the UK in the 90's discovering our road safety PSA's has almost enough entertainment value for me to get over having watched them as a kid...

Think! - Slow Down (Extended) (UK)
YouTube video by Mark Pentler Think! - Slow Down (Extended) (UK)

Yeah but you bet I wore my fucking seatbelt after it.
The UK was very good at a specific genre of "what the actual shit did I just watch?!" horrifying road safety ads. - for example:
youtu.be/ipnJbSnmc24?...

Me and my wife were planning doing UK>QM2>NYC>Niagra>Toronto>UK for our honeymoon and almost as soon as Trump got elected that went out the window!
We're Queer, I'm trans and a Union rep and trying to cross the US border twice didn't feel like a good plan!

It's not a zero sum game though. It may well heighten some of my issues but it alleviates others. Therefore it's up to me to decide if the pros outweigh the cons. Just like some of the meds I take have side effects so can some of my coping strategies.

There is a difference between "being a terrible writer" and "being a writer who writes in a style you don't like." Tbf

I'd rather chew sand than read Dickens and nothing short of a gun to my head will induce me to try Josef Conrad again- I still recognise they are both great writers.

SA survivor and weirdly same- with an added 'I want to understand the brain of someone who does things like that.'

Help us support Girlguiding and the Women’s Institute to remain inclusive | Good Law Project We’re offering to defend the Women’s Institute and Girlguiding against trans exclusion

Girlguiding and the Women’s Institute say that they have been left with no choice but to exclude trans people, even though they don’t want to.

This is outrageous – and we want to defend them. Help us do that hereπŸ›‘οΈπŸ‘‡

Appeal sought against Hampstead ponds trans access Sex Matters wants to appeal a ruling that it cannot take legal action against the City of London Corporation.

The Ponds patrons are overwhelmingly supportive of trans inclusion, and yet still Sex Matters keep pusing there idealogical agenda. They say they defend women's rights, but continue to ignore the voices of women; how very misogynistic.

Your periodic reminder that Maye Musk's family is so racist that Errol Musk, a man known far and wide for his racism, found them way too racist

Ok but also I don't care as long as I get my full puppet war of the worlds! (And I include a tiny Jeff Wayne puppet conductor in that)

This skeet brought to you by me getting yet another bloody advert suggesting seeing the new film as a valentines date idea.

If your significant other tries to take you to see it in a romantic context?

Run away don't walk.

I don't think people realise just how staggeringly rich 250 billion is. If you know someone who makes a quarter of a million a year, it's likely they're "your rich friend" because they're comparatively loaded.
They would have to work *a million years* to get that much money.

04.02.2026 17:19 β€” πŸ‘ 225    πŸ” 51    πŸ’¬ 4    πŸ“Œ 3

Biggest absolutely should not be a controversial take but apparently is?

WUTHERING GEIGHTS IS NOT A F***ING LOVE STORY!!

Stop romanticising abuse. Heathcliff is not a tragic/flawed/byronic hero. He is an arsehole who uses an abusive childhood to try and excuse being an abusive adult.

Nope.

First time I was catcalled was a boy band called 5ive hanging out of a Limo window on Vauxhall Bridge Road in London. I was 14 and *in my school uniform* and it was not a subtle 'could be an office worker on break' uniform. Would have been 2000.

I think you mean Tony and co right? Labour introduced tuition fees and then tripled them to 3k first...

It's all shit all round but it wasn't one side doing it. Labour had already commissioned the Browne report which recommended unlimited fees. You honestly think they wouldn't have raised them?

A question I would quite like #LibDems Foreign Affairs spokesperson @calummillerld.bsky.social to ask the Foreign Secretary is why the Foreign Office Travel Guidance hasn't been updated for the USA in light of the paramilitary death squads attacking anyone who is or looks foreign in US cities.

I'm also part of the @radicalassociation.bsky.social who are a group of (mostly) party members who exist to support Radical Liberal policy and candidates. We're currently re-establishing ourselves but we were pretty successful at getting people elected to various internal committees recently :)

For example I wrote our policy on Accessibility and Climate Change as a motion to conference supported by other members
I was on the Social Care Policy working group that came up with our entire policy area on that.
As Chair of LGBT+ Lib Dems I worked with Christine Jardine on our LGBT+ Policy.

Best thing (IMO) about us though is our policy is largely member-led so we do have a fair bit of influence on it as members in different ways.
