You can’t ask evil people to be less evil. All you can do is fight them.

Democracy is when voters choose their leaders. Autocracy is when leaders choose their voters.

Senator’s change of heart lets NM stand with immigrants Joseph Cervantes shepherded legislation he previously blocked.

I wrote about Cervantes’ change of heart, which he backed up with action, because we need to see more of this in the fight against authoritarianism. /2

State Sen. Joseph Cervantes turned the tide this year in favor of efforts to get New Mexico out of the business of immigrant detention, and I am grateful. /1

The day was wild and very personal for me. My daughter and my wife’s daughter both participated in the protests. My daughter was there when a man revealed a weapon and scared the hell out of the kids.

I really urge you to read or listen to this one. /3

Teens across Las Cruces unite to protest ICE β€˜We are here to show that we are not just going to sit idly by’

I grabbed my phone and notebook and headed out to follow them. Here’s my article. /2

I’ve covered a lot of protests in Las Cruces over more than 25 years. When I heard on Thursday that students from Centennial High School had marched all the way to Las Cruces High, picked up students there, and were heading to Mayfield, I knew something historic was happening. /1
