what if we meet intelligent alien life out there but the novelty eventually wears off and we're back to "i wonder if we're alone in the universe or if there's more than just humans and galorphasians"

I think a lot about how we as a culture have turned "forever" into the only acceptable definition of success.

Like... if you open a coffee shop and run it for a while and it makes you happy but then stuff gets too expensive and stressful and you want to do something else so you close it, it's a "failed" business. If you write a book or two, then decide that you don't actually want to keep doing that, you're a "failed" writer. If you marry someone, and that marriage is good for a while, and then stops working and you get divorced, it's a "failed" marriage.

The only acceptable "win condition" is "you keep doing that thing forever". A friendship that lasts for a few years but then its time is done and you move on is considered less valuable or not a "real" friendship. A hobby that you do for a while and then are done with is a "phase" - or, alternatively, a "pity" that you don't do that thing any more. A fandom is "dying" because people have had a lot of fun with it but are now moving on to other things.

I just think that something can be good, and also end, and that thing was still good. And it's okay to be sad that it ended, too. But the idea that anything that ends is automatically less than this hypothetical eternal state of success... I don't think that's doing us any good at all.

Happy SELENE!-O-WEEN!! remember to leave out some lesbian erotica and leather BDSM gear tonight, or she'll eat you and then summon you back from the dead for an evil plan that ultimately won't pan out.

people with adhd dont need "adderal" or
"vyvanse" they need a woman to tell them to put their laundry away and to wash their dishes and then lay them on her lap after they're done and whisper how good they did and how proud she is of them and ruffle their hair

I think when it comes to shipping or fictional romance in general you have to free yourself from the shackles of thinking it should always end in a loving marriage. sometimes they have earth shattering sex and then don't talk about it or speak to each other for 10 years and that's AWESOME!!!

Sketches in black pen of the popular video game character "the Knight" from Hollow Knight. They wear a white stag-beetle-like mask with two round, vacant eye-holes and two curved horns. Their body is a simple short black blob with two arms and two legs, over which a tattered cape is worn. They are shown top left holding a sword-like nail with spiralling engravings down its length. At the top right they are leaping in the air with the nail aloft. Below that they "T-pose" to show off how their cape swooshes, and at the bottom of the page they leap forward, only mask and trailing cape shown.

The most wish-fulfilling part of the narrative is seeing someone who has done terrible things come to terms with the emotional damage caused by the life they embraced. I'm sorry, maybe it's the prison abolitionist in me thinking this is the most ideal outcome.

I understand frustration with feeling like actions don't have consequences, but they've already written out a lot of the most uncomfortable parts of Greek myth.

People hate the Hades 2 ending so badly, but I'm genuinely curious; how else could you have written it? It's a game that has the exact same objectives as its former, and the same constraints. I'm not sure how I'd change what's there.

Hey folks! Google is fucking you via sneaky enshittification again!
Want the shit in your google drive to load instantly again, instead of taking for-fucking-ever?
Open your gdrive (web OR app)
Settings > Manage Apps
Gemini was checked "use as default" (and i sure the fuck didn't set it that way, this was a silent push)
Nuke that, and suddenly, folders that took up to a minute to populate and sort do so in a fraction of a second.

Post from Threads user rodneyowl: "Ireland has declared the Basic Income for Artists scheme permanent. This will be officially announced in tomorrow’s budget. Details to follow. Congratulations to all who fought for it and the present and future artists of all sorts in Ireland. That includes me πŸ‘ŒWe’re just comin to the end of a 3 year pilot scheme. It’s been a roaring success. For every €1 paid out to the 2000 participants, the government got €1.46 back. Can’t argue with that. Other countries are already taking note."

Damn. This is amazing. Β£325 per week, paid monthly, for 3 years - and the result was a profit for the Irish economy:

fanart of Melinoe from Hades 2, wearing a modern outfit (dark jeans, orange top), she has a big tattoo on her right arm, and is about to tie her hair with a hair band (is this how it's called in english ?)
her eyes are closed, she has nice arm muscles and looks extremely lesbian
