I’m toying with the idea of recording a Resident Evil: Requiem playthrough. Might be a fun diversion to record and edit a video seeing as I want to play the game anyway. Give some insights from a game design perspective (look, I’m finally using my degree!) and maybe even from a screenwriter’s?

It’s fucking surreal to see wars actually be advanced to bring about the apocalypse/return of Christ after having written that into a screenplay I’ve been working on-and-off for years.

Townfall's theme also repeats each bar once before shifting, adding to that swinging Waltz-feel, whereas Promise's motif shifts notes between each single bar. So Townfall's is at once truncated in notes, but elongated through repetition. Trance-like. It gives me goosebumps watching the trailer.

It even follows the same initial intervallic changes, just an octave lower, going from G2-G3-D4 to Eb3-G3-D4. From here, Promise's motif shifts to E4-G4-C5, then Eb4-G4-C5 before repeating the phrase, whereas Townfall's goes to C3-G3-C4, then travels slightly while returning to the root -G3-D4.

The composer - rumored not to be Akira Yamaoka, but musician @pilotpriest.bsky.social - took the base ostinato from 'Promise (Reprise)', dropped it an octave lower, and used the first three notes to turn it into a haunting, beautifully melancholic, warbled waltz (from 4/4 to a 3/4).
