The kind of tech the left is excited about
20.02.2026 19:00 β π 1752 π 487 π¬ 17 π 1the very real possibility that we might get to see the gitβs literal police mugshot plastered over the front pages at some point in the near future is really getting me through my workday π₯°
19.02.2026 16:35 β π 23 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0It's good to know that The Royal Family can still unite the nation at times of adversity.
19.02.2026 10:46 β π 144 π 19 π¬ 2 π 0'Being detained at your brother's pleasure' will never not be funny
19.02.2026 10:28 β π 1588 π 362 π¬ 25 π 17absolutely insane that they're still gathering in the dining room to perform light entertainments for each other the night after one of their fellow passengers was STABBED TO DEATH?? Wild time to be reciting comic poetry in eveningwear
18.02.2026 21:24 β π 10 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0unfortunately I have either remembered or just figured out who did the murder and how almost immediately, which isn't the case for most of these early episodes so far, so now all I can do is just soak up the vibes
18.02.2026 21:02 β π 8 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0another of my favourite Agatha Christie tropes is that everyone is at all times ready to break into a game of Bridge
18.02.2026 20:56 β π 11 π 2 π¬ 1 π 0I'm now on 'Problem at Sea' which so far is a lot of people flirting and bitching on a boat, and Poirot is just loving every second, he's so relatable
18.02.2026 20:54 β π 8 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I've never bought single sachets myself...but the standard 200g jar of Nescafe reckons you can get about 100 cups of coffee from it, so about 8p (or 11 cents US) per cup
if you can get 12 for $1.50 than I guess that's 12 cents per cup, so about the same price across the pond overall!
Nescafe is standard here! Unfortunately that's the one that was Β£7.80, which I'm sure is cheap by some standards, but expensive for me, whereas the supermarket own brand was literally a third of the price π
18.02.2026 13:20 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I had to admit defeat in the coffee aisle, because I was DETERMINED to get some decent instant coffee for once, but I just...I just couldn't bring myself to spend Β£7.80 for the one I really wanted, so I got the gross Β£2.65 jar instead as usual, I am working my way up here, baby steps!!
18.02.2026 12:26 β π 10 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0the Scottish side of my family has apparently embedded a genetic thriftiness so deep that I am fighting for my LIFE every time I enter the fresh fruit aisle, trying to justify to myself a small carton of raspberries π
18.02.2026 12:22 β π 12 π 0 π¬ 3 π 0one of my resolutions for this year is to spend more money on food, since I'm tired of eating crap just because it's cheap, and so far the most difficult part is to not just break down sobbing in the supermarket, it is soooo expensive to eat in any kind of somewhat healthy way my goddddd
18.02.2026 12:20 β π 17 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0whereas polling from Ipsos and YouGov consistently puts people who plan to eat pancakes on pancake day at around 60-80% π
18.02.2026 08:16 β π 9 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0worth noting out of interest that only about 12% of British people describe themselves as βAnglicanβ & around 46% (as of 2021 census) as any flavour of βChristianβ, so tho there certainly are plenty of people observing these religious events, theyβre just not nearly as ubiquitous as in the states!
18.02.2026 08:12 β π 9 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I am exclusively interested in holidays and events that involve a lot of delicious food, and Fat Tuesday sounds extremely promising in that regard
17.02.2026 23:28 β π 27 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0this fascinates me, surely all butter is justβ¦butter? Isnβt it the same everywhere??
17.02.2026 12:09 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0How to make pancakes the british way:
Step 1: remember it's pancake day
Step 2: work all day because you are a cog in the capitalism nightmare machine
Step 3: Too tired to make pancakes
Step 4: no pancakes for you
the decongestants here 'aint shit either, I once used a decongestant given to me by a Canadian friend and I swear I saw God
17.02.2026 07:58 β π 11 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0yeah it's weird that it's a cold medicine over there, in the UK we just use Benadryl for allergies, it won't do anything for a cold!
17.02.2026 07:53 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0no-one understands my obsession with Dennys π cake batter milkshake, my beloved
17.02.2026 07:45 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0itβs possible itβs a high fructose corn syrup situation, but god I would sell my soul for a single packet of soft bake Chips Ahoy! right now πͺ
17.02.2026 07:06 β π 19 π 0 π¬ 3 π 0the cookies thing is the most annoying to me personally, because for some reason even the cheapest grocery store cookie there is miles better than our best attempt here, and I cannot figure out WHY, what do they PUT in those things, itβs just a cookie!! They donβt even have that many ingredients!!
17.02.2026 07:02 β π 16 π 0 π¬ 3 π 1but the cold medicine you can just get likeβ¦over the counter in Wallgreens or w/e is *astounding*, itβs like being back in the Victorian times where you could buy those cures that were basically a bottle of laudanum and cocaine
17.02.2026 06:59 β π 29 π 0 π¬ 4 π 0(I personally would also add milkshakes and the standard practice of giving you a jug of water in restaurants without having to be asked to that list)
17.02.2026 06:56 β π 29 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0my colleague came back from holiday in the USA and we spent some time commiserating on how incredible both American cookies and cold medicine are, two thing that we all agree the US is vastly superior on

17.02.2026 06:45 β π 10 π 3 π¬ 0 π 0I've started watching 'Small Prophets' on iplayer, on my mum's recommendation, and I am hooked, dare I say enthralled, it takes a bizarre premise and spins it into absolute gold, highly recommend if you get the chance to check it out
