The Wager, David Grann

I read Killers of the Flower Moon last year and it cemented David Grann as my fav historical nonfiction writers. Being able to write a plot twist when I KNOW how the story ends is incredible.

In an Intense Election Year, New Post Office Rules Could Trip Up Voter Registration - Bolts A change in how mail is postmarked could lead some voters to miss key deadlines, including voter registration. Advocates worry the people most affected will be those already facing voting barriers.

NEW: The USPS changed its rules on how it postmarks ballots.

This may affect elections at every stage at which there's a mail deadline.

An underplayed one: VOTER REGISTRATION.

Many voters who send in their registration forms by mail could be postmarked late, missing out without realizing it.

The Death of Truth: Notes on Falsehood in the Age of Trump, Michiko Kakutani

A well documented timeline and great companion book to a couple I read last year. Information dense for a short read. "I believe in being truthful, not neutral".

The Black Girl Survives in This One: Horror Stories, Anthology

Stories were bite-sized, I could finish 1 ea in 1-way commute. They run the gambit of horror subgenres and styles of storytelling. Wished some were longer, I'd read a whole novel of 'The Brides of Devil's Bayou' & 'Foxhunt'

Call your house rep and tell them to support HB 2540 which will increase the amount disabled people can save from $2k to $10k and remove the marriage penalty where you lose your only source of income if you get married regardless of how little they make. Switchboard: (202) 224-3121

We Should All Be Feminists, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

A book length essay that's exactly what the title says. It's short and forward and the sort of read that should be required tbh

Costumes for Time Travelers, A. R. Capetta

I wanted something quick and fluffy after the last two intense books and Costumes for Time Travelers fit the bill. I liked the world building. This is a sorta junk food read for me but I had fun so no complaints!

They are everything to me...

I have a nearly 300 page document that will never see the light of day on them. If I don't draw them together at least once a year, I explode.

This is so funny. I went through nearly the EXACT journey with chocolate. I always thought it was spicey and then I said it out loud to my partner and he said 'that's not normal, chocolate isn't spicey'. Turns out I'm allergic to most popular chocolate brands.

You Weren't Meant To Be Human, Andrew Joseph White

Horror so good I had a nightmare because of it πŸ’œ
Everything else I have to say about this book is too much for bluesky. Just know that I loved it and if you're into medical body horror, check the triggers on his site before reading.

Hazelthorn, CG Drews

I was not anticipating reading 2 queer cannibalism romance horror books, but here I am. I fell in love with Don't Let The Forest In last year & started foaming at the mouth when new CG Drews entered my library. This book makes me want to eat the drywall /pos

Emily Wilde's Compendium of Lost Tales, Heather Fawcett

3rd in a series, read the other two in '24. A nice satisfying end for these characters, full circle moments. The sorta fun, low stakes read I like as a pallet cleanser.

How to Be a Good Creature, Sy Montgomery

An absolutely lovely memoir that made me cry on my way to work & suffer questions like "Are you okay?" & "What happened?". Yeah, I'm fine, I'm just emotional over the relationships between animals of varying species.

Represent: The Unfinished Fight for the Vote, Michael Eric Dyson & Marc Favreau

A dense but short read detailing the US's fucked up past & present regarding voting, with some ideas on improving it's future. Took me longer than anticipated to get through, but I'm glad I did.
