a black standard poodle lays on his side on his back deck, in the sunshine. he has a green misshapen ball, a long pink tongue, and beautiful floofs.
Also: check out my handsome doggo. π

As promised: my new owl friend. This is a Barred Owl, our most common owl around these parts. I am going to have a good listen tonight for their calls! So nice to see them in our woods.

I just spent twenty minutes watching an owl perched on a tree (that was absolutely COVERED in oyster mushrooms). I watched it sleepily watching a raven flying overhead. MAGIC.
I didn't have my camera or a tripod so my photos are gonna suck, but I'll share some once I've gone through them!
The world could be such a nice place if we allowed it. It's all so goddamn unnecessary. There's no need for any of it. It's so beautiful here. It should be so cool to be alive

No words. Just rage and despair.

Day 7.
After a few(?) days of pretty much constant dissociation, I have had a remarkably clear head today. I cannot express the relief.
I do, however, have a nagging feeling that I've forgotten something important.
Hoping it will come to me, but if you know what it is, please let me know? hah.
I claim both, too! And also have a millennial spouse!
But mostly I claim both because after decades of being seen as much younger than I am, I am finally OLD.
Telling people I was born in the 1970s is a kick these days. π
You are one of the coolest people I have "met" in recent years. Whatever you put your time and energy towards will benefit from your wisdom. Fight the good fight!
27.02.2026 23:23 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Oh, we very much could. Okay, I'll put it on my vision board and when there are spoons, I will cross my fingers and hope you have some too! π€πΏπ§

Wetlands, even the little ephemeral ones in our woods, are *so* interesting. The plants alone! I always find time to explore them when I come across them.
Nice to know I have a friend who is also a bog-lover like me. When I have spoons and you have spoons we should find a bog to explore!
I am anxiously awaiting not being broke so I can buy that book. Wetlands are the most wonderful of all lands.

Day 6.
Man, this is kicking my ass. I have *all* the symptoms I was expecting. Flu-like symptoms, sweating, nausea, dissociation.. it's a regular party over here.
This had better be worth it. Sigh.
Day 5.
24.02.2026 19:43 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I'm here for the wood ducks, for sure.

Day 4.
Send serotonin. I seem to have lost all of mine.
Day 3.
I feel.. weird. Not unpleasant, but.. weird. Maybe unpleasant? Meh.
Gonna watch The Pitt and pretend my laundry doesn't need to be done.
Ugh, the Olympic figure skating gala was so much fun. I can't believe it's over. I wonder how long CBC Gem will let me do a daily re-watch? π

For myself and others who are like "SMS class huh?" :)
Day 2 of 35 in my 2026 cross-taper adventure.
Not feeling too weird yet. That will change.
For those playing along at home: I am coming off my SSRI and SNRI meds and adding an SMS class drug instead.
Whee? Heh.
a male mallard swims through some reeds - he has water droplets on his pretty bright green iridescent head
a red-winged blackbird stands on one leg on a fence post, with some flowers and reeds in the backround. his red and yellow wing patch is visible and striking.
Today's #BirdOfTheDay theme is #WaterDroplets, birds with water droplets on them, the alt theme is #OneLeg, any bird on one leg.
I have one of each today! Yes, yes, another Mallard (I love to photograph them) but also: a Red-winged Blackbird standing on one leg.
Crap. Forgot alt text. Here it is, sorry!
a Great Blue Heron flies low with its wings out over a blue marsh. the background is blurry green bushes with blue sky behind.
an immature American Robin perched on a Western Red-Cedar branch.
The alt theme for #BirdOfTheDay is #cute - birds you find cute even if others don't.
I gotta tell you, immature American Robins hit that spot perfectly for me. They are not classically beautiful in any way, but LOOK AT THAT FACE.
Oooh.. #BirdOfTheDay is #WingsOverWater! This Great Blue Heron flying over a marsh was photographed on my birthday in 2021 at Riefel Bird Sanctuary.
It's a bit of a haul to get there (involving a lot of driving and a ferry), so I only go a few times a year, and every time has been magic.
A figure skating podcast would be fun too!
I need to do some digging, apparently.
If anyone knows of a good plane crash podcast (RIP Black Box Down) or a birding podcast that is consistently good, let me know!
