As a journalist, I can say with confidence that most news journalism has failed miserably in dealing with Trump (when not simply partisan), for the reasons Ian explains here. It's been an abject sight to see.

Where next for structural bioinformatics?

I wrote a blog post about the future of structural bioinformatics.

Where to go after AlphaFold? How do we avoid the field becoming a load of half-baked LLMs?

Let me know what you think.

Exciting! How do I setup such solvated system (enzyme or any other kind of protein, NA, etc.) and actually run some simulations with OrbMol? Looking for some sort of tutorial

I explored diffuse scattering and molecular dynamics during my doctoral studies, but unfortunately, I wasn’t able to find any meaningful interpretation at the time. Very curious to see what insights this initiative will bring!

Job alert 🚨 Our team is looking for ML Research Scientist to join Johnson&Johnson research. We work on geometric deep learning and LLMs in drug discovery. πŸ§¬πŸ€“ Drop me a message if you’re interested, or share this if you know someone who’s a great fit!

Multiple locations available.

The Physics Of Dissonance
YouTube video by minutephysics The Physics Of Dissonance

Just like the video creator, I had no idea these kinds of plots were a thing. Although, I play a bunch of instruments and have a decent grasp of music theory🫣

The Gentle Singularity We are past the event horizon; the takeoff has started. Humanity is close to building digital superintelligence, and at least so far it’s much less weird than it seems like it should be. Robots...

Sam Altman wrote a blog post to tell us that he doesn't understand human creativity, technology, science, politics, history, ethics, or even his own AI. He does, however, have some grasp of marketing.

Europeans who think Europe will save world science from Trump are fooling themselves by an order of magnitude.

Hats off to all our american colleagues out there protesting in the streets today, scientific progress is the only way to a better future and no government should stand in the way of that ✊🏼

The Putinization of America: Can Trump and Musk Outdo Vladimir Putin? In Moscow, there’s plenty of speculation that Musk could quickly become to Trump what Boris Berezovsky was to Putin. Two alpha males, many argue, cannot coexist in the same den.

It’s sad to see what trump does to science but it’s even worse to see two psychopaths with no empathy bully the unfortunately emotional president of the country at war. This opinion by Mikhail Zygar is spot on (free 10-min audio version avail.). Is this the new reality, or Americans could fix that?

Google AI co-scientist announcement saying: "We introduce AI co-scientist, a multi-agent AI system built with Gemini 2.0 as a virtual scientific collaborator to help scientists generate novel hypotheses and research proposals, and to accelerate the clock speed of scientific and biomedical discoveries."

Not sure why Silicon Valley is so fixated on marketing AI to scientists as a tool for hypothesis generation? We have no problems generating hypotheses. We can crank out half-baked ideas just fine. You can help by pipetting, debugging unmaintained code, and troubleshooting weird unreported edge cases

An automated email with structbio/ml papers

An automated email with structbio/ml papers

Finally put together a script that scrapes arxiv/biorxiv/pubmed and emails the relevant structbio/ml papers from there every morning github.com/delalamo/Pub... I have it running on Heroku cloud for $7/mo, but it can also run locally for free on a raspberry pi or whatever

What’s the catch?πŸ™‚ Also wanted to play with it and ask for the details of the 1989 Tiananmen events. The first attempt was censored as many have shown. But the second attempt was a success! With a caveat that it’s a Groq inference of the R1

Mysterious Blobs in Cells Are Changing the Way We Understand Life Tiny specks called biomolecular condensates are leading to a new understanding of the cell

In the cover story of the February issue of @sciam.bsky.social I explain what biomolecular condensates are and why they are transforming cell biology. A short 🧡

Agree on management. I use Copilot to chat with my notes. Also find Enhancing Export very useful - nice to render Markdowns to pdfs (with some Latex support). Have you tried them?

Spot on! Just yesterday had a discussion with my wife (who’s in pr and communications) on this topic and came to pretty similar ideas. But there is also a β€œblock” button by which you create the info bubble with your own hands (at least on twitter). How will one deal with such bias?
