what I am trying to do now is accept that a jump between chapters is going to be kind of abrupt until someone can help me with it editorially, because it is impossible to pry a fully edited publication-quality draft out of your head in isolation. HOWEVER, it should be possible for Me Specifically

(this is not a bad thing! story reasons offer heft and meaning! but when things are drawn directly from personal experience, it is not always easy to impose story logic)

the problem with fiction is that everything needs to flow logically / nothing can be truly arbitrary, unlike in real life, where arbitrary shit happens all the time. I can't just be like "he is doing X thing because he has been rawdogging his Bipolar-I for 20 years." there has to be a Story Reason™
