The Translated Hugo Initiative
Putting the World in Worldcon
There is a really valuable initiative to get a Hugo Award category for Translations, and I am a huge supporter of this idea. Translations deserve their own category and recognition--they are a unique subsection of SFF and have done so much for the global SFF community translatedhugo.org

Words from Audre Lorde I--we--need to keep remembering:
when we speak we are afraid
our words will not be heard
nor welcomed
but when we are silent
we are still afraid

I really need folks to stop acting like disability is full of people βscammingβ the system.
The average person has no idea how hard it is to qualify. How dehumanizing the process can be. How much you have to sacrifice & give up.
Itβs designed to make you quit.

I'm like a broken record on this, but this stuff needs to be stopped right now and it's of paramount importance. we are staring into the abyss of ethnic cleansing and mass murder in not too long at all. this cannot be come the new normal.

Selfie wearing a Keith Haring t-shirt standing in front of bookshelves of my own books or books I translated, holding
in my left hand my picture book DAS DORF DER STEINE illustrated by Lena Studer, translated from Spanish to German byβ Eva Roth (Atlantis Verlag) which is a finalist for the Schweizer Kinder- und Jugendbuchpreis in Switzerland
&
in my right hand my translation into English of LETTERS IN CHARCOAL, written by Irene Vasco, illustrated by Juan Palomino (Lantana Publishing) which is shortlisted for the Carnegie Medal in Illustration in the UK.
How AMAZING that I am a finalist for national awards in 2 different countries:
my picture book DAS DORF DER STEIENE for the Schweizer Kinder- und Jugendbuchpreis in Switzerland
&
my translation of LETTERS IN CHARCOAL for the Carnegie Medal in Illustration in the UK.

Outsiders. Rebels. Who doesn't love an underdog? Deep inside, most of us identify with those who are a littleβor a lotβdifferent. Sometime in our lives, we've felt like we didn't quite fit in. Forging your own way builds strength, and makes for a damn good story! storybundle.com/outcasts

Here's a question for science-fiction writers: are any of us addressing fictional science? We're going to be seeing lots more of this, since that is probably the 'research" that will now be getting the best funding in the US. future. (We're in Stalin-Lysenko territory now.)

"Decade" is also used (less commonly, of course) to refer to a group of ten. The common use of decade fits that general meaning, since it's a grouping or set of ten years.

Am currently reading Niccolo Machiavelli's Discourse on the First Ten Books of Livy, a brilliant work of analysis that has much more to teach us about the US in 2025 than George Orwell's 1984 does. I do wish members of the US House and Senate would read it.

All it took was a single week of the new regime to provoke me into committing a particular kind of publishing act. Aqueduct will be releasing my new collection, Like Shards of Rainbow Frolicking in the Air, in June 2025. Two of its stories were on their year's Otherwise Award Honor List.

I would say our national bird should be changed to the vulture, but that's not fair to vultures, as they perform a vital service in the landscape.
