I don’t think 1.5 degrees failed because it was too ambitious. It failed because hardly anyone made a serious effort. Just look at fossil fuel subsidies. Any serious attempt to phase out fossil fuels would have started by immediately stopping all fossil subsidies.

Despite the general lack of engagement from COFFIS members countries, some members submitted high-quality information.

Austria and France get a NEGATIVE score.

⚖️ The newly launched initiative of our campaign - the COFFIS Observatory - developed a methodology to score the inventories, rewarding transparency and punishing the lack of essential information.

➡️Launched at COP28 and spearheaded by the Netherlands, the Coalition on Phasing Out Fossil Fuel Incentives Including Subsidies was meant to mark a turning point.

Countries are supposed to publish an inventory one year after joining.

@ec.europa.eu finally reacted to our open letter of October 2024 demanding an immediate phase out of fossil subsidies.

The efforts made by @wopkehoekstra.ec.europa.eu and Dan Jørgensen so far still fall short
