21.07.2025 11:58 β π 6 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Potentially unpopular opinion regarding latest Govβt line on teacher pay - yes a pay increase is welcome, but real issue that needs tackling is workload. A 2, 5, or 10% increase does nothing to make workload easier in my opinion. Something gets removed and immediately replaced with something else.
11.12.2024 09:16 β π 1 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0We start teaching development in January, but next week weβre introducing it via Gapminder/Dollar St and will start to unpick some wider misconceptions then. The biggest barrier in teaching India is just how rapidly it evolves as a case study, but that adds to the joy of teaching it for me π
11.12.2024 22:58 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Weβre also Edexcel A and teach India as our emerging country case study. The latter half of the development spec considers global status, tech innovation and some of the strategies we look at for this can then also shift upwards to the globalisation unit at A Level.

30.11.2024 21:44 β π 6 π 2 π¬ 1 π 1Commented on the original post, but essentially I think itβs tricky for us to implement in every lesson.
Where we can build familiarity/repetition however is consistently using it in similar circumstances e.g. describing location, breaking down low tariff Qs etc.
Safe to say Dexter is getting himself pretty well acclimatised to his new home already π‘
30.11.2024 10:43 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Yep, it could be that they have the discussion then the extent of their understanding is tested through those. Iβll try to share an example of how weβve implemented it with Y10 later today - currently have our new cat stuck to me π€£
30.11.2024 10:40 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Weβve had a whole school drive on pupil talk recently, and one of the things we focused on in particular in Geography was strengthening our think, pair, share.
Whilst we were already doing lots, weβve tightened the routines around how we facilitate it, and reconsidered a lot about the Qs we ask.
That poster looks amazing - would be great if the RGS could digitise it and make it available for schools to use (with the creatorβs permission, of course!)

24.11.2024 21:08 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Same, usually a βthis means thatβ¦β and βas a resultβ style approach. Although sometimes I wonder how far removed that is from PEEL?
23.11.2024 21:44 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Quite a βtheory heavyβ teaching day today, covering middle course river landforms with Year 10, tropical storms with one Year 11 class and global atmospheric circulation with the other.
And the kids absolutely aced it π
Not mine, but a friend was once given a full 5 lesson timetable to teach as an βinterviewβ. They definitely just wanted a free teacher for the day π€£
18.11.2024 17:34 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Hello Bluesky π Happy to join the rest of the #geographyteacher community over here, given what X has now become. I didnβt share a huge amount on there, but perhaps I can get into better habits here!
Here I am with an upside down globe a few weeks ago in Lisbon π
Last year's 0.75 cm rise was the largest year over year increase in global mean sea level during NASA's 31 year record of satellite based measurements. Viz by AJ Christensen.
