I'll never understand this checker at my grocery store who insists soap needs its own bag separate from any food. Plastic bottle of liquid hand soap cannot possibly contaminate food that's already in its own packaging. I don't need a second bag just for one small bottle of soap.

Stayed on board on most of those - the stops were pretty short. The nice thing about staying on board was you had first dibs on the best seats after passengers at a stop deplaned before the boarding passengers got on board.

Because there was a time when this move would have been an easy one. It also comes 10 years to the week I walked away from a company I'd been at exactly 10 years. March 2015 and 2005 were pivotal points in my career - March 2025 may be as well but in a very different way - staying versus leaving.

For the first time in my career I think I'm turning down a job offer that would be more money on the basis of a work project and team I don't want to walk away from at my current gig. Benefits and long-term security also feel a bit better where I am now. It all feels very, very weird.

Retail isn't dead in the US. Provide a quality experience and have things in stock that people want in the sizes they need and hire quality people in large enough numbers to properly staff and guess what? You sell shit! It's not that hard but so much of our retail acts like it's impossible.

Everywhere else Macy's is a disaster and closing stores because the experience of walking in one drives you to leave without buying anything. Herald Square? Complete opposite. So if they can get it so right here, why can't they get it right anywhere else?

Hotel for the weekend in NYC is right around the corner from Macy's. Walked into that store today and it's the polar opposite experience of 99% of Macy's locations. Inventory! All sizes! Helpful employees who are friendly! And customers actually buying things!

Yeah that sounds rough. I know it's really tough for a lot of job seekers. I'm in a bit of a unicorn job right now where it's still very much the job seeker's market, as there's far more work than available people with the right certifications and experience. I realize I'm very lucky in that regard.

On the other hand I've had two companies come to me and one made an offer (and the other would have had I not told them no before they did) without any formal interviews. Took a few months but I wasn't really looking. Conversations have been more casual, not formal interviews.

People who aren't tall enough to reach the overhead bins on a plane and also pack bricks in their luggage really should check their bags rather than demand those of us who have height stow and retrieve their bags for them.

I might have to check this out next weekend when I've got some free time in the city. Haven't been to the NYC Transit Museum in probably 20 years.

They won't learn. Or if they do they'll forget, just like they forgot 2017-2020 when the time came to vote in 2024.

It's pretty amazing how they just know things. When we walked in someone came over and said, "Mr. Sullivan? Welcome!" and showed us to the bar for a drink before we were seated at our table. They excel at service like nowhere else.

I knew you were referring to Canlis before I ever got to the end of this post.

Did they also know who you were when you walked in the door but never asked your name and you'd never been there before? Because that was our experience when we went for our anniversary.

It's been problematic since the day it opened. Even new it had atrocious reliability, and the frequent planned maintenance closures are apparently what keeps it limping along.

Exactly! But even before those big recliners they still had much better seats.

I love going to the theater but hate enduring seats obviously designed by someone who was 5' tall and doesn't care to make all their patrons comfortable during their performances.

My long legs awkwardly angled into the aisle at Seattle's Paramount Theater because Seattle Theater Group would rather pack more people in than remove some rows of seats and charge more.

Performing arts venues need to learn a valuable lesson from airlines - there are millions of dollars in profits to be made by having some seats with extra legroom and charging extra for them. The arts are chronically underfunded and this is an easy way to generate more revenue.

I've gotten it from all ages. I feel like guys who do that have nothing better to do with their time than spend ALL of it glued to the apps desperately chatting with anyone they can. Sorry, I'm not looking at my phone every minute of the day.

It's like riding a bike. 10+ years after I left a job and company where I had to write SQL queries all the time I can still do so against that former employer's database from memory, a skill that still is useful when converting clients off that system to what I implement now.

Often it's the window if it's just one seat - to allow more space for the exit hatch to be opened. But it's not unusual to be the full row. Can't say I've ever seen it as just the middle.

17.02.2025 05:20 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Many exit rows are lacking in seat padding - across lots of airlines. At UA the exit rows on the 319/320s are less comfortable than the other rows. I've experienced the same on other types at UA and also on WN, AS, AAโ€ฆ

You're welcome! Another Chuck Brown/Soul Searchers song to check out is Bustin Loose. It's not sampled nearly as much as Ashley's Roachclip, but it has been part of a lot of big hits, including Nelly's Hot in Here.
