Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer said in a statement: “My heart is breaking for the Grand Blanc community. Violence anywhere, especially in a place of worship, is unacceptable.”

The church was set on fire during the attack, and the fire has since been contained. Grand Blanc Police Chief William Renye said the casualty count could rise as officers finish securing the scene. The suspect was killed, and police say there is no ongoing threat to the public.

Meanwhile, many Democrats argue that this is another alarming step taken by the Department of Justice to prosecute those who Trump sees as his political enemies.

“No one is above the law. Today’s indictment reflects this Department of Justice’s commitment to holding those who abuse positions of power accountable for misleading the American people. We will follow the facts in this case,” Bondi posted on X.

Halligan was previously a White House aide and part of Trump’s personal law team. The office was vacated by Erik Siebert after he refused to prosecute Letitia James, saying there was not enough evidence.
