Depends on which effect you mean! 99% of the times, water is all you need for making fun watercolor effects like blooms and color separation, depending on which paint pigments you're using :3

The danger of rushing is not only making mucky color that will blend instead of layering... it's also not letting enough of the paper white show through bc you're not planning and just go over everywhere 😆 hm. Reminds me i miss painting with gouache too. Go over all surface: still win
