Second time in a week Radio 4 made a noise whilst I was driving at speed which made me certain the bottom had fallen off my car/the engine was about the explode. Petition to include a warning for drivers before they make broken car sounds.

I bought a chocolate brown silk shirt and now I feel like I’m made of Galaxy.

I don’t really know who I’m saying this to but around 1/3 of the proofs I agree to read never actually arrive so maybe if you’re a writer thinking another writer hated your book and didn’t want to blurb it, it’s just that they never received a copy

Glad to be home rather than trapped in Schiphol. Gladder still to arrive back to a new Lucy Caldwell short story collection. I already know these stories are going to be brilliant because they came from the pen of a genius - can’t wait to crack into them.

I think it was miraculous. The flight board said flight is closing when I landed at one end of one terminal at 9:32 and I was sitting on the plane at the far end of a different terminal at 9:42 having pulled a suitcase and gone through passport check.

I know. Just landed in Belfast early. The day is doing its best to redeem itself

I don’t know how I did this but I made it from one end of Schiphol to the other, through passport control in 9 minutes. On the last flight to Belfast by seconds. Air steward literally shouting me on as I ran for the gate. Come on Miss carson we’re holding the door for you.

I’ve slept overnight in Schiphol more times than I’d care to mention. Really not up for a repeat performance tonight. KLM are going to get me a hotel or I’m going to lie down on the floor and cry

Also enjoying the company of the world’s most unhelpful check-in attendant “how should I know where the KLM help desk is in Schiphol?”

Today - walked into a glass door so hard I left an imprint of my face, sat through two hours of an all in German book prize, flight delayed and stuck in Amsterdam over night and NOW some eejit is playing the trumpet in the departure lounge. The worst.

I couldn’t count how many times Literature Ireland has been there for me, supporting my writing, listening, encouraging and being a home from home. Endlessly grateful. Swung by their swanky new set up at Frankfurt Book Fair today and caught the team working hard to promote Irish writing
