Can anyone recommend good quality black lace up ankle boots that will last well. I’m done with DMs The sole has entirely come off one boot and the upper has split from the other after less that two years wear.

Mexican alarm clock. First I had a couple screaming at each other outside my hotel door at 4:30am, then they very quickly made up and that was just as noisy.

It’s very hard not to sing along with it in public places

Day one at the Guadalajara Book Fair. Met some lovely Finnish people, had a great panel about silence.

Someone at this departure gate in Mexico City has the Eastenders theme tune as the ringtone on their mobile. Very taken with this.

They’ve just paged Jonathan Franzen to our departure gate. I’m guessing it’s a different Jonathan Franzen but I have googled his picture just in case.

In other news, the duct tape holding my DMs together has finally given up the ghost and I can see my socks all the way through the soles of my boots. Travelling like an absolute pro on this trip.

Having previously believed the world’s most confusing airport was Taipei Im revoking the honour and giving it to Mexico City instead. Baffling signage. Huge amounts of indoor construction work. Smiling staff who don’t answer questions just keep pointing different directions while saying connection.
