Principal, Equity and Inclusion
Upper Canada District School Board
How do you work with community partners to create more engaging learning for students?
By building relationships with local community partners, students make use of transferrable skills such as creativity, critical-thinking, communication and collaboration to address challenges in their local communities. When students work with educators and community partners to center themselves in meaningful problems, and make a positive impact in their community, student engagement in reading, writing, math, science and the arts soar.

OPC Wins Arbitration Decision on Home Assignment
September 10, 2025
We are pleased with a decision made by an Arbitrator in a case against a public school board concerning a principal’s home assignment. This landmark decision underscores the importance of fairness and due process when school boards assign principals and vice-principals to home pending a workplace investigation.

Q. How does your student-first approach contribute to helping students reach their literacy goals?
A. We ensure our literacy curriculum includes texts that reflect our students' diverse backgrounds, experiences and cultures; promote the use of materials and resources that mirror their identities; organize family literacy nights, offering parents and guardians strategies to support their child's literacy development at home; work with teachers to develop personalized learning plans that cater to student's literacy needs and goals; and monitor students' literacy progress, identifying areas of strengths and needs.
