He’s old and always losing parts of himself during battles, so he scavenges what scraps he can to constantly rebuild himself. And sometimes, old parts that he salvages contain magical properties…!

Now I’m imagining that he’s always constantly losing and needing to replace bones in his decomposing body, so his configuration is always changing.

Especially if he finds bones from old wizards and magical creatures! Slowly gaining skeletal abilities
