We're having a great time on day 2 of #VitaeCon2025 - fantastic talk from Dr Julie Bayley, and a Prosper shout-out from our long-standing collaborator Dr Anne Marie Sowerbutts at The University of Manchester

Thanks for sharing - it's such an astute analysis.
But I can't help thinking - what are we, as a society, actually going to do about it?

I need a #mathematician to help with a project. Ideally UK-based.
I've emailed a few folks in my uni, but none replied...
Anyone interested?
My need is nonlinear modelling of brain and muscle signals, optimisation, decomposition.
Anyone?

4.6 Billion Years On, the Sun Is Having a Moment
In the past two years, without much notice, solar power has begun to truly transform the world’s energy system.
Globally, roughly a third more power is being generated from the sun this spring than last. If this exponential rate of growth can continue, we will soon live in a very different world, @billmckibben.bsky.social writes.

This was such a fun conversation with my colleague Dr Susan Donkin.
We are equally passionate about engaging with our postdoc community at @universityofleeds.bsky.social, and giving them a platform to be heard.
And it shows ... 😊

On the 24th of June, we’ll be at the Light Building (Level 7) at Leeds University with LMS.
Don’t miss your chance to meet the team, stop by for a chat, or discuss any laboratory equipment needs you may have.
There might even be a treat or two waiting for you at our stand!

I am ready to tackle the dreadfully neglected back garden I inherited from the previous owners. It's a wildlife desert.
I want to create a biodiverse (mini) south-facing courtyard garden and I want to turn it into a wildlife haven.
Thank you for the inspiration and practical instructions!

I am a bell lover too (never thought I'd say that one day). I had a gorgeous white porcelain one which made a pleasant sound but it has gone missing ... so I bought a metal one instead but is the sound is terrifying (but as you say, it works).

This photograph captures Sir David Attenborough seated outdoors on the rugged terrain of Skomer Island. Behind him, the ocean and coastal cliffs form a scenic backdrop under a clear sky. Sir David, dressed in a khaki jacket and light trousers, looks towards the camera with a gentle expression, exuding a sense of warmth, calm, and wisdom. Around him, puffins can be seen flying and perched on the rocky ground, illuminated in rays of golden sunlight as the sun sets behind the cliffs.
Happy 99th birthday to the man who gave voice to the wild. 🎉
Sir David Attenborough, thank you for a lifetime dedicated to the natural world, and for sharing its story with wisdom, wonder, and grace.
You've inspired generations to fall in love with nature.

Brilliant, thank you Dinah. As a lifelong letter writer, I can't wait for my lovely surprise coming through my letterbox 📮.
And thanks to you, I also discovered all those exquisite stamps - oh my, that's dangerous territory for me 🤣🤣🤣. Is it time to grow my (sizeable) collection?

"Doppelkopf" - weird name, great game.
Used to play it all the time in my student days - but now I can't remember the rules. Something to teach me next time we have a social at work. Happy Easter Barbara 🐣🐣🐣

Harvard has set an example for other higher-ed institutions - rejecting an unlawful and ham-handed attempt to stifle academic freedom, while taking steps to make sure students can benefit from an environment of intellectual inquiry, rigorous debate and mutual respect. Let’s hope others follow suit.

Twenty Lessons, read by John Lithgow
Key selections from On Tyranny, for viewing and sharing
"On Tyranny" is a #1 NYT bestseller again. I wish the moment were different. But I’m glad the book is useful. And grateful for all the kind words about putting the 20 lessons to work.
