Unpopular one: Talent is real. It's a brain thing. Some people are genetically set up to be excellent runners, some people are genetically set up to be incredible artists.

But practice is king. Any skill can be cultivated, talent is just a speed modifier. If you want to learn, you can. Push at it.

it's the association with someone's actual skill being passed off as talent, which is both highly dismissive of the effort they actually put in, and often used an excuse to not try something at all

Now that's Fairy Fire.
