Elect *which* Chicago women?

Idea: make rich people pay to keep this wondrous green space institution open to the public long-term.

And then go to city budget hearings this spring to agitate for it. Against NA’s who want it to wither and die.

It’s intended as a fee, not a tax, not needing the public vote. This is why TUFs have been so popular in other municipalities. And why multifamily units strictly pay 70% what single family homes do.

As someone who agrees w/ you, I think no one expected the TUF to be as popular as it was and the gas tax sunset was a way to soften the blow of the new TUF.

There’s a case to be made for gas tax’s declining revenue, it’s bad incentives for the city, it’s instability and its regressiveness

While we are at it, advocate for residential & commercial rent controls. Portland may be seeing some in the near future

In my experience this phenomenon goes deeper than just social media. I’ve been in many local furry group chats posting concrete political action items and there’s definitely a phenomenon of burying them in posts abt pizza or cute animal pics. My methods aren’t owed buy-in… but I see no alternatives.

For all of its talk of “community” the furry scene feels more like 5000 individuals than any kind of durable community

I feel exactly the same as you do. It’s been very isolating personally.

I keep seeing self centering posts like “don’t assume I don’t care b/c you don’t see me doing anything!” Like it doesn’t matter whether someone cares it matters whether the work of liberation gets done 🙄

Homeownership is great if you can get it but it’s only valuable as an investment because some people cant have it. If we made it less of an investment our world would look very different

Note that the suburban cities *already pay their own TUF*. Portland tried to pass one multiple times since ‘08, but voters are not system level thinkers so we settled for a cope nominal gas Tax which doesn’t match inflation. We are now reaping the results of those choices

PSC expansion** through the Montgomery park project. Left that part out.

I can’t speak for Fischer. I think everyone interacting w/ this post agrees we need stable O&M for existing transit. Having seen transit get defunded basically in slow motion last year, I can say that many planners/electeds care more about PSC than O&M funding (not sameer! Love him!)

Under most TUF schemes, MF units are charged 70% what’s SFHs are bc they induce 70% the car trips, and

Commercial parcels will eventually be charged according to a function of sqftage and type of land use, but temporarily some % of wastewater bill

Absolutely heard. I’d trust the process a lot more if the Biden admin spent its capital building out robust metro systems and not meager streetcar projects greenwashing lidded freeway expansions.

Starting to feel like these projects are performative box-checking by planners as we actually defund transit ops & fund freeway megaptojects.

The effort prompted immediate pushback from businesses and residents who at the time were wary of any type of tax or fee increase, spurred in part by the shaky implementation of new voter-approved, specialty tax-funded preschool, homeless services and clean energy programs.

Conventional wisdom is that anyone in Portland who isn’t a millionaire is “tapped out” on new fees and taxes.

If that is true, any fee which gains major buy-in from the public is something to be cherished.

And if “industry voices” are the vanguard against fees, we should sit with that.

Seems like a decisive victory for a strong TUF and Street Damage Fees. I would like to see the city consider a 100% street damage fee if we are going to go 100% TUF.

Concerned how much slide space is devoted to “industry concerns” about delivery fees considering the popularity among regular ppl.

Let’s say library usage was “down” 30% and there was a proposal to close “empty” libraries and the open house was at 9 am.

Would it be fringe and single issue to be upset about that?
