I find it funny how a good amount of people take their continuous victory lap for ending slavery in the United States, yet are dismissive when this holiday is brought up. The holiday saying to slaves in Texas, “I guess you guys didn’t get the memo: slavery’s over.” (2/4)

Juneteenth is a commemoration of the events on June 19, 1865 where Union troops came to Texas with the information that slavery was abolished in the United States, two months after the Civil War ended and the two years after Emancipation Proclamation was ratified. (1/4)
