BT Manager John Connell testifies against an anti-transit bill in the Indiana House of Representatives Chamber

Legislative Warning from an Indiana transit agency: β€œA central Indiana Senator is forming arguments against transit funding in Indy, concerned that IndyGo's budget is larger than Indy's commitment to public safety. This may have implications around the state.”

Don’t want to boost my neighborhood too much but the change has been coming even outside of the typical neighborhoods: The Near Eastside of Indianapolis has massively improved over the last decade and a half.

Join the rally to support and promote pedestrian safety in Indy - we are gathering to call on the City of Indianapolis and the Department of Public Works to take significantly stronger and more rapid action to solve Indianapolis’ ongoing pedestrian and bicyclist safety crisis.

Creating spaces for people, not cars, enhances the beauty, appeal, safety, and economic sustainability of our city. We’re proud of how far we’ve come, and have a tremendous amount of hope for future developments in Indianapolis.

Indy faces $1B annual transportation infrastructure funding gap, report says - Indianapolis Business Journal The city of Indianapolis faces a huge funding gap to improve and maintain its roads, bridges, sidewalks and other transportation infrastructureβ€”an amount approaching the city's $1.3 billion annual bud...

Don't forget another important detail:
"The Statehouse's road-funding formula allocates gas-tax funds and other revenue by center-lane miles instead of lane miles, favoring roads with fewer lanes. But many Indianapolis roads are multi-lane thoroughfares."

Just want to emphasize that the funding gap is‼️PER YEAR‼️ and every day that we fail to act on that gap, it increases - because the roads degrade further AND become more expensive to repair.

We could put the entire city budget towards this shortfall for a decade and we would still not escape.

Indianapolis is in a hole of infrastructure debt. Many of our roads are a financial liability instead of a useful resource for our city's economy.

Cars damage roads too quickly. The spare lanes need to be turned over to other mobility solutions (Bike, bus, scooter, etc)

Could Indiana expand its passenger rail?

If they did, where would you go?

What impact would it have on your life?

INDOT is conducting a survey for its 2025 Rail Plan, and they should know that citizens want passenger rail.

My least popular (and most correct) view is that cars should be automatically limited to the local speed limit. Put the pedal to the floor and you still can't go over 25mph in a residential area.

(15 in Manhattan btw)

Say no to another gas station.

This is a great opportunity for Indy to build something much better in this location, that invites community, creates a third space, and bolsters our city’s economy.

If you’re on the Near Eastside, you may be interested in this upcoming meeting!

There are loads of pedestrians and cyclists in those neighborhoods, and their infrastructure needs some love more than many other places in the city.

Yesterday, Central Indiana Cycling held a meeting that hosted Vision Zero Coordinator, LeAndre L. Level Jr. as speaker.

During the meeting, it became increasingly clear that implementing safety measures on our streets will be an uphill battle.

Keep an eye out for chances to gather and speak out.

When I-70 was built in the '60s, it was a disaster for Indy. People that worked hard to build a life here were forced out, and hundreds of businesses went bust.

We can work together to build Indianapolis into a vibrant urban center again. Learn more and get involved by clicking the link in bio.
