Only one teen showed up today and asked that I pull out Terraforming Mars, based on a rec from a friend who already played it with me.
Later, the teen was stunned when I properly used Aura and Rizz in a scentance explaining how energy turns into heat during the production phase.
Vending at a NYS indie author event at the Arkell Museum in Canajoharie today from 12-4. It's their first time doing the event, not romance specific, and it's a rural-ish area, so my expectations are incredibly low. I'm here to network and have fun. And write. #writing

I've been using Tidal, but it's been a while since I've looked to see if they are up to any bullshit.
At least they haven't tried pushing me any AI music.
With that in mind, as a player I can sometimes be grumpy about having to pick up a new program or tool to participate.
06.03.2026 19:11 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0After that, it depends on what you usually bring to the table. I'm usually a strict Theater of the Mind GM, so I don't need to worry about handouts or minis. And if I have to worry about you reporting die rolls honestly, we have bigger problems. Feel free to roll your own off camera.

The technology that enables online RP also gets in the way.
The cameras and mics (if you are using them) don't catch all the things you absorb by sharing space. That does affect communication and how energy is shared among the group.
Oddly, this is less of a problem in play-by-post.
Shit. *I* need that card.
I mean... Look at my bookshelf!
My brain does this stuff on reflex sometimes, and I'm not even a professional. And it's thrice as easy on day's like today when I have less focus than usual.
So, no.. no comedy career for me.
You can see the vision, but having the wisdom to not act on it???? eh.....
I mean, I did spin it out as a hypothetical after all.
So, you get my point.
I saw a clip in passing about someone talking to Trump, who supposedly hinted that Cuba is next. Horrible shit, true or not.
But my brain knows the shape of the joke. Launching missiles at Cuba only to hit Florida ("known" to be home to many, many Cubans). America shotting off it's own dick.
I may have said it before, but I'll say it again. I could never be a comedian.
Oh, I'm funny. My brian knows what a joke looks like, but it fails at "appropriate" sometimes.
Of course, I will have ideas, but a game built on this premise is probably going to be more of an exploration and conversation on the theme.
06.03.2026 14:01 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0The trick, for me, is getting just enough together to pitch and attract players, but not work so far ahead that I can't listen to the questions they will ask (in play) and build on that.

You can start with anything from investigating a rumors of miracles performed to finally tracking down the last member of the party that killed the lich, but failed to stop the viillain's plot.
And the ultimate goal could range from restoring the world that was or preserving the world that is.
And once you have an interesting idea of how that would affect things, you can extrapolate. How does the world fill those holes?
Then you ask, who stands to benefit or lose if the gods come back? That gives you your factions and conflicts.
All you need then is an entry point for into the story.
If you remove the Cleric and Paladin class from the game, how would that have affected the games you've run or played if those options simply weren't there? Not just player tactics, but the support and influence NPCs had in those games.

And, what happens when the barrier begins to fail and the gods start to return?
I planned on running the game from the second part, but you have to consider both when winding up for the pitch. I haven't run this yet because it's a lot of work.
First you consider the holes!
This is the tail end of the thread and an interesting questions.
I don't have an answer, I have a campaign seed: How does D&D change if a paranoid lich closes the world off from divine influence for several generations?
I have further, unfocused thoughts...
Which reminds me that I have an long-undeveloped campaign seed that I came up with as a challenge to thing about this stuff. I still want to revisit it some day.
This take reminds me that Divine magic and Patron Magic are similar in that the power comes from someone else. But the contracts are viewed in drastically different ways.
By contracts, I mean both the social contract a the table, but also the relationships between characters and their source.
Turns out that, like Colbert, I too am named Stephen and have availability starting in May.
Don't panic! It's only Job 2 going away.
It'll be nice to have the time back. It was mostly a good experience too. I'ld be open to doing similar again.
I posted all that, logged into job 2, and discovered that they will be replacing me with a full time person who can be physically in the office.
It's like the universe was listening and decided to make it interesting/call a bluff.
Anyway... That last season of Doctor Who was a little rough, wasn't it? I finally caught up.
I liked the actor. as I have all the actors before them. But the shorter seasons left them very little room to explore this incarnation. And maybe they needed a little more time with the scripts?
And while it's a nice fantasy to think being an early adopter (dare I say, influencer?) imparts any aura of authority or importance, I know that isn't the case.
Its always how you comport yourself and participate in public that matters.
In my lifetime, home computers started as a fantasy, made reality, miniaturized, supplanted by mobile devices, and has now become the realm of enthusiasts, programmers, scientists, and engineers.
06.03.2026 04:26 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0Seriously though, while there are people who have been on the Internet longer, I'm a fairly early social media adopter. I'm also the outlier for my generation, most of whom never saw a comput IRL outside of a classroom, which only had one, and that wasn't online.
