Watching the third period and he's had like 3 or 4 shifts through the first 10 minutes. On those shifts I've seen him make a really nice saucer pass for a scoring chance, hustle hard repeatedly on a pair of back checks, and he attempted a backhand pass that got picked off. I can still see the good

Yea, I liked his game a lot at the Olympics, he didn't look slow, showed some dynamic skill that the Wings could really use and made plays that few others can. I was expecting to be disappointed in him but I was pleasantly surprised

I guess I just think that if you can get him for a 1st and some lesser prospects like Buium, Lombardi, Mazur, etc then it might worth it. Especially if Vancouver retains a couple million and we get him for less than Larkin.

I'm not sure I can convince you, but I do think he's playing better this season and better as of late. He's overpaid yes, but I don't think he's bad by any means. And if he finds himself again, then you have an absolute stud.

Correct, he was younger for his draft class, similar to Larkin too. Whereas Pettersson was on the older side.

I think the big concern for the Wings has been, and continues to be, how long Larkin can stay a 1C, and whether someone in the system can replace him. Maybe it's Kasper or Nate, but Thomas is a proven 1C who's younger and gives us a solid 1-2 punch down the middle for now and the future

That's fair, but making the playoffs this year becomes a lot easier with Thomas than without. The price is a lot though

I've just encountered two very alarming Detroit Red Wings stats: Since January 1, the defenseman leading the Wings in points per 60 minutes at 5v5 is... Hamonic at .84. Chiarot is 2nd at .79. More alarming is Larkin at .8, which is amazing since Raymond is 2.73 and Kasper is 1.76

Joel Eriksson-Ek was at .92 his rookie season. Roope Hintz was at 1.18 for reference.

Fun fact, and I don't think it means much, but still interesting. Nate, Kasper, and Finnie have very similar pts/60 at 5v5 in the NHL this season, between .92 for Nate, .89 for Kasper, and .88 for Finnie. Dvorsky for the Blues is lower than those 3 but pretty similar at .86

Nate does have 12 pts in 14 games in GR vs MBN, who 24pts in 38. Last year Nate scored at a rate of .55 pts/game, MBN is at .63 this season. I think Nate could be something, but he could also be a third liner
