School board supports naming merged school in honor of Salem abolitionist SALEM — The School Committee has shown unanimous support for naming the merged Carlton and Saltonstall schools as the Sarah Parker Remond Elementary School, in honor of the Salem-born activist

At our next meeting the #SalemMA School Committee will vote to name our newly configured elementary school the Sarah Parker Remond Elementary School.

It will be the first school in Salem named for a woman and the first for a person of color.
