Admittedly, never had to deal with snow so bad it requires moving. Never gets that bad here, but from enjoying snow elsewhere I can only imagine.

And stories by the fire, with warm food and hide blankets...

Also beating snow off the Lavvu every morning, and digging it out of the entryway. That part Sak and Kuveli are less fond of.

It's started getting a bit chilly again recently, as we head into winter. And you know what that means?

In my experience, people don't even need that much of an excuse to go wandering around on viaducts. Had a stupid one the other week, couple kids lying between the rails to take photos. Even wandered up to the cab after the train stopped, and I'm sure the driver gave them an immense bollocking.

I can't recall where I heard or read it, but for folks in his time it's thought hunting would have been quite social. I heard it compared to a night out, you meet up with folks who might live in a different group, who you haven't seen in a while, and get to spend up to a few days with them.

Looks amazing! And so many details to look through.

The artwork is made up of many different petroglyph-inspired animal figures. The animals are all moving to the left. In the foreground you see three wolves and four ravens chasing after two bull elk and one doe in fairly dark lines. In the background are similar style elk that use smaller artwork and lighter lines to represent being further away. All the foreground animals have gold foil circles into their design around their heart's location and airway location. The entire piece has been given a distressed treatment.

This is probably the largest art I've made in a long time; it's 16x48 inches at 300dpi. All of the animals are inspired by petroglyphs and cave art from around the world on top of the shapes found within the animals themselves. #art #caveart #petroglyph #deer #wolves #ravens #raven #wolf #elk

He enjoys both, really. It's nice to be out and about when hunting, and spending time with folks he might not have seen for a while. Similarly, cooking is nice for a night in with friends, recounting stories and sharing in good food.

But Kuveli laughs at them, and that’s what counts isn’t it? Gotta ignore the folks who say he shouldn’t be filling the boys head with crass jokes.

Turning up to any setting like Jack Churchill, people wondering how and where he’s carrying the rifle, bagpipes, sword, longbow -and- several mills bombs.

Carries or owns a dueling sword, but never had the heart to make use of it.

Gets around a lot, including places he’s not exactly expecting, but is always prepared.

A second round never hurt anyone, I’m sure.

Oh, I wouldn't be so sure. He's usually performing or drumming instead of dancing, unless he's had quite a lot to drink. But singing? There's a good chance you'll catch him humming or singing to himself sometimes, or with Kuveli, or even while trekking with friends.

He would argue that he's no more spiritual than anyone else, but his father was a shaman and that certainly rubs off. That and, well, his is a world steeped in myth, spirits and demons

Fishing is also just nice. An excuse to get up late and take the day slowly, find a nice spot to fish until dark.

Who wouldn't? He's already lost his parents, and after that many folks who took him and Kuveli in. He'll do anything to keep those who he still has by his side.

Though the killing a fellow hunter... it's not a prospect he's ever had to deal with, until the Sun Shaman arrived.

They can be, and that’s before mentioning that he likes to scrub heather into his fur. So he‘s more earthy-stinky than stinky-stinky… most of the time.

Look, don‘t be surprised if he shows you the old ritual deer outfit he bartered for. Or if he tells you the same guy has more, if you want one too.

It’s not stink, it’s soul! Most of it anyway, but… you try and arrange more frequent group bath days. Or do you like the scents of leather, pine, woodsmoke and a little body odour?

Deer are fine, tastes good, nice pelts, cool antlers. Deer-men on the other hand… don’t get him started, you’ll risk TMI.

A perfectly appropriate response. Now if I could find a way to do that at work…

Tries to find a polite way to ask someone to stop, when they turn up going “yo, I found this TV show you’d like, presented by this Hancock guy!”

Somehow this one seemed to completely pass me by. Or, you might have sent it my way before, and I didn't retain the knowledge due to (probably sleep-deprived) reasons.

We know it's not (always) dipshits too, 'cause you'll have telecoms out at the crossing tinkering with it, while on their own phone asking the signaller if it's still going off.

I'm still moderately intrigued by a railway-themed horror story, prompted by a not-super uncommon infra fault:

Sometimes the telephones, provided at unmanned and manually-operated crossings, will randomly and/or persistently call in to the signal box on their own.

As a writer, that kind of stuff makes me blush more than I am willing to admit. But something as simple as "I liked this" also provides that warm, fuzzy feeling.
