Like, there are maybe a few storylines in QAF that could be considered similar, but you'd have to watch for a while to get to them (and they're mostly not done that well.)

09.12.2025 22:36 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0This is possibly the best review I've seen of this show so far -- it captures exactly what's so captivating about it. And, importantly, it doesn't apologize for it -- it's not, "I liked it, even though it's romance."
09.12.2025 22:27 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Baseball uniforms seem like they'd at least be more comfortable (and practical) for that than hockey uniforms, though. Hockey basically cover you with several layers of padding and hard plastic.
09.12.2025 22:11 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0How would this even work? They leave their gear in the locker room. And they certainly wouldnβt wear a shirt with their name on the back while trying to inconspicuously sneak into each otherβs rooms.
09.12.2025 21:52 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0The first book in the series is the coffee shop AU one. The show is mostly based on the second book, which has a very different vibe.
09.12.2025 21:04 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0How would this even work? They leave their uniforms in the locker room, and they're never in the same locker room.
Also, seems like a lot of the equipment would get in the way.
One of my friends (a college professor who sees the computer skills undergrads have) bought gaming desktops for her tween sons, on the condition that they learn how to do stuff like organize files, download and install programs safely, etc.
09.12.2025 20:12 β π 5 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0When I taught at a middle school summer program on a college campus, our cafeteria rule was lunch and dinner need to include at least one vegetable and no more than one dessert. When you put it that way, it seems pretty similar to some of the college course requirements.
09.12.2025 19:51 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0My college offered a course on French in Louisiana. One semester of learning about the different varieties of Louisiana French and their history, and one semester of field work, interviewing and recording Louisiana French speakers. I still regret not taking it.
09.12.2025 19:49 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I took Modern Middle East to satisfy a requirement. I was a math major, now a mathematician. I still remember things I learned in that class when I'm reading the news today, and it helps me put them in context.
09.12.2025 19:46 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Well said β it's the rare made-to-stream series anymore that demands you not just soak in the whole frame, but forces you to put your glasses on as well. It's got to be tempting to adapt romance novels by projecting the florid internal monologues onto the screen, but Tierney has utterly resisted it.
09.12.2025 03:03 β π 14 π 3 π¬ 0 π 0And why I got frustrated at "Girl From the North Country" -- there was action, and then the action stopped while everyone sang a song, and then stuff was happening again. (Almost) nothing ever happened *through* the songs -- they were just kind of there as bookends to the scenes.
09.12.2025 19:17 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0It's similar to what I think makes this a great song -- you can see how she's considering options and making her choices, and the music leads both you and the character to somewhere different than where you started. (Literally, in her case.) www.youtube.com/watch?v=HTWo...
09.12.2025 19:15 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0For me (and I'm usually not typical in these things, fwiw), I mostly read romance for the stories. I love watching the characters grow as their relationship develops, and how they change through it. And I can get that from romance no matter what gender the characters are.
09.12.2025 19:14 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0They're sold out everywhere -- the publisher somehow didn't anticipate increased demand, and didn't print any extra copies. Ebooks are the only way to get them until January.
09.12.2025 19:06 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I think they're talking about the end of this scene, where it seems impossible that Scott didn't overhear what Ilya said. For the "sounding like him," I agree with you that's what Scott meant, but I don't think Shane was sure if he knew or not. www.instagram.com/p/DRqVCgAD-T_/
09.12.2025 19:03 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0They use condoms, but I don't think there's any discussion beyond that
09.12.2025 18:54 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0According to the author, he doesn't know.
09.12.2025 18:53 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I was really confused by that review asking why they never had sex while wearing their jerseys. Like, there are obvious practical reasons why not, but I had no idea why the writer thought it was even relevant to ask.
09.12.2025 18:50 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0One theory I have is that competence, self-control, responsibility, and expertise have all been feminized, leaving βmasculinityβ with the realm of impulsivity and petulance. So the divide is not really between βfemininityβ and βmasculinityβ so much as between adulthood and childishness.
09.12.2025 18:41 β π 2814 π 616 π¬ 106 π 0For HR, the books describe one character as being in pretty good shape for a regular guy who works a regular job, but not really muscular like the professional athletes. And then they cast a guy who looks like this. www.instagram.com/p/DR8QRt3D70l/
09.12.2025 18:45 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0The show posted a bunch of clips like this, with the scene combined with the book text. (They're 18 here.) I thought their faces communicated this well, but I'd just read this a few days before I watched it, so I don't know how it would seem to someone who hadn't. www.instagram.com/p/DRpTxj6j8kJ/
09.12.2025 18:37 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I think the pacing of the show would have worked better if they had a few more episodes to work with, but I guess they could only get the budget for six. I thought both main actors did well at developing the emotional arc non-verbally, but I'd already read the books so I knew what was happening.
09.12.2025 18:27 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0The book does sort of do that -- it starts out with a scene where they're older, then jumps back to 17.
09.12.2025 18:19 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0For the main characters, the show takes place over about 12 years, and the first two episodes are ages 17-23 or something like that. Stuff gets more interesting for them as they get older and start making more adult decisions.
09.12.2025 18:04 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0For episode 3, we jump into these characters lives when they're already around 30.
09.12.2025 18:02 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0The show takes place over a period of about 12 years, and the first two episodes are ages 17-23 or so for the main characters, and it's mostly furtive secret hookups followed by panic attacks over what it means and if someone will find out. Things get more interesting as they get older.
09.12.2025 18:02 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0No problem, just clarifying. That Steve/Bucky couple is in the show (episode 3 is focused on them), but theyβre not the main characters. (And Iβve seen a lot of people, especially older gay men, saying they thought the ep 3 characters were far more compelling than the main ones, fwiw)
09.12.2025 17:53 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I havenβt finished 5 yet, but that sort of βhow it could be betterβ is a big theme. I thought 4 was just ok β tying up a few loose ends that needed to happen somehow, but the main story was mostly filler.
09.12.2025 17:45 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0The plot is basically βafter hooking up for years, they develop feelings, and thatβs a problem - how do they solve it?β The first two episodes are mostly sex, and background of the pressures in their lives and why it canβt be more than secret hookups. More plot happens later.
