I don't think we're on the same page... turns out it's Gene Clark I was squinting at!

Today's chazzer booty, Β£3.
Original Chapter 1 pressing in great shape - it regularly sells for Β£100+ on Discogs, etc (but I'll be hanging onto it).
I've never heard a Pete Brown record I didn't like - his LPs with Battered Ornaments and Piblokto! are all bona fide Desert Island Discs 'round 'ere...

It's a chazzer regular 'round here and definitely worth a quid or two.

Their cover of "Can't Seem To Figure It Out" is terrific.

I'd visit hoping to find a Bowie LP I hadn't heard (this was 1980ish) and end up leaving with something by Linton Kwesi Johnson or Stockhausen because I'd seen their names mentioned in NME and liked the sleeves...

You're very lucky... 5 days a week I drag my weary bones to my current gulag. But I'm planning on reducing my hours next year and then looking for a new home further out of the city... I'm too old for this urban sh*t!

I think my copy must've been a birthday present 'cos I wasn't crazy about the singles off it, they seemed a bit tame compared to some of the other electronic music I'd begun listening to... D.A.F. for instance.

Our local library had a good vinyl section which was a lifeline for home-tapers like me.

Wish I could've found a higher res version. Oh well.

Neil was a flippin' genius. I've been semi-obsessed with this one of his recently:

I'll find it online and give it a whirl.
That cassette looks lovely!

My fave Ure-Vox LP is Rage In Eden so Quartet came as a bit of a shock and was a huge disappointment at the time - but I was already listening to Cabaret Voltaire and Fad Gadget so all was not lost...

GM's production pushes too many of the interesting sounds into the background - apparently his hearing had begun to deteriorate as well? In parts it's like a limp pop remix of what was probably a decent LP, though I suspect they'd probably run their natural course by the time it was released?

I used to use wax plugs, the ones you mould before inserting, but I eventually got an ear infection from using them. I use foam ones now - they're definitely not perfect but they mean I'm less likely to be kept awake by arsehole neighbours when I'm trying to drop off.

Braying prats p*ss me off.

Is it a residential street you live on or one that's been taken over by student HMOs?

Earplugs probably saved my sanity tbh!

Nigh on 40 years since I last listened to this and to say I'm "surprised" by how much I'm enjoying it would be *something* of an understatement - it must be my age?

George Martin's bland production did them no favours and turned me right off the band at the time.

"Two boiled eggs."

I was there too, my then-gf lived in Bristol at the time. What I remember most is the long, winding version of "Blue Is The Frequency" that RTX ended their set with - I'd love to hear it again. Am I misremembering or were Fridge / Four Tet bottom of the bill too... or was that another Fleece gig?

In the bad old days I would've pushed my way into their house in my dressing gown, knocked the hi-fi over, and slammed their front door so hard while leaving that the glass shattered.

Nowadays: ear plugs.
