I've never heard a Pete Brown record I didn't like - his LPs with Battered Ornaments and Piblokto! are all bona fide Desert Island Discs 'round 'ere...

I'd visit hoping to find a Bowie LP I hadn't heard (this was 1980ish) and end up leaving with something by Linton Kwesi Johnson or Stockhausen because I'd seen their names mentioned in NME and liked the sleeves...

You're very lucky... 5 days a week I drag my weary bones to my current gulag. But I'm planning on reducing my hours next year and then looking for a new home further out of the city... I'm too old for this urban sh*t!

I think my copy must've been a birthday present 'cos I wasn't crazy about the singles off it, they seemed a bit tame compared to some of the other electronic music I'd begun listening to... D.A.F. for instance.

Our local library had a good vinyl section which was a lifeline for home-tapers like me.

Wish I could've found a higher res version. Oh well.

My fave Ure-Vox LP is Rage In Eden so Quartet came as a bit of a shock and was a huge disappointment at the time - but I was already listening to Cabaret Voltaire and Fad Gadget so all was not lost...

GM's production pushes too many of the interesting sounds into the background - apparently his hearing had begun to deteriorate as well? In parts it's like a limp pop remix of what was probably a decent LP, though I suspect they'd probably run their natural course by the time it was released?

I used to use wax plugs, the ones you mould before inserting, but I eventually got an ear infection from using them. I use foam ones now - they're definitely not perfect but they mean I'm less likely to be kept awake by arsehole neighbours when I'm trying to drop off.

George Martin's bland production did them no favours and turned me right off the band at the time.

I was there too, my then-gf lived in Bristol at the time. What I remember most is the long, winding version of "Blue Is The Frequency" that RTX ended their set with - I'd love to hear it again. Am I misremembering or were Fridge / Four Tet bottom of the bill too... or was that another Fleece gig?
