Expedition leaders who discovered Endurance and Quest enthrall crowd at Festival of Shackleton RCGS find of Quest featured at major Shackleton gathering in Dundee, Scotland

John Geiger recounted the less-well-known but fascinating story of Shackleton’s final expedition aboard Quest, which was found off the coast of Labrador on June 9, 2024. Shackleton died aboard Quest during that expedition in 1922, marking the end of the Heroic Age of Antarctic Exploration.

Last week, the RCGS-led expedition that discovered the wreck of Quest, Sir Ernest Shackleton’s final ship, was featured at the Festival of Shackleton hosted by Discovery Point and RRS Discovery and the Royal Scottish Geographical Society.

The RCGS Research Grants Program is now accepting applications for next year! The deadline to submit is Februrary 14, 2025.

Stephen Fry becomes an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Canadian Geographical Society The renowned actor, comedian, writer and director was honoured at a ceremony in London, England

Fry was awarded the medal and honorary Fellowship for his outstanding contributions to the Society through the Trebek Initiative and advancing our mission of making Canada better known to Canadians.

Yesterday, the RCGS presented its Lawrence J. Burpee Medal to actor, comedian and director Stephen Fry at a ceremony in London, UK.
