But yeah I detest the "cop" dynamic--it's the opposite of how I teach.

The bitterest pill about AI cheating for me is that AI'ed assignments take much longer to grade than honest assignments because they turn grading into an investigation.
So when the student spends less time, I spend more. Fun!
Next season will have its own unique joys and horrors, as ever. (Though this least season was one of the more joyless ones in recent memory.)

Theses fascist assclowns are not going to "win" this or any other war, nor will they even be able to trick their supporters into thinking they have.

I'm not really paying close attention to the geostrategic/military aspects of Trump and Bibi's horrifying and deranged imperial war, but the fact that Iran's drone strategy to close the Straits of Hormuz "seems to have caught the White House off guard" is bonkers.

“At the end of the day, she didn’t sound any better than some of these ultra-conservative people who were demeaning Black and Brown folk on a regular basis,” said Rev. Rodney Sadler, a Bible scholar and longtime community activist in Charlotte. “It felt like a betrayal of the utmost.” Cunningham’s comments proved so problematic for Sadler that he said he realized that she was “no longer worthy of being our representative” and he had to run against her. “It drove me to a point of saying, ‘She needs to go, and she needs to go now,’” the 58-year-old pastor, who works at Charlotte’s Union Presbyterian Seminary, told Bolts.

That said, when Kerry did in fact do all of those things, you not only voted for him, you donated $20 to his campaign. Let's not be afraid to tell the whole story!

Donald Trump was "anointed by Jesus to light the signal fire in Iran to cause Armageddon and mark his return to Earth," according to a complaint by a non-commissioned officer. From Saturday morning through Monday night, more than 110 similar complaints about commanders in every branch of the military had been logged by the Military Religious Freedom Foundation (MRFF). The complaints came from more than 40 different units spread across at least 30 military installations, the MRFF told me Monday night.

This is bad news. And worse, Pete Hegseth, Russell Vought, probably one SCOTUS justice, and at least half of the White House also believe this.
It’s not just random members of the military!
Calling AI "slop" has been one of the most effective instances of the public rebranding a product and it pisses them off.

You picked the worst opinion poll number and did not mention the passage I cited, so I chose to do that while pointing out that public opinion shifted against the war in part because of the efforts of the anti-war movement (not elected Dems).

It's remarkable that we had around a third of the public (that's a good approximation) not sign on to the war push. Had the Democratic Party actually opposed it, those numbers would have been higher. Unforgivable by 2002-03 Dem leaders.

But the number you cherry-picked went down. Look later in the article:
"In the months leading up to the war, majorities of between 55% and 68% said they favored taking military action to end Hussein’s rule in Iraq. No more than about a third opposed military action."

Line of dialogue from the TV show Cheers: Annie Tortelli: It's bad enough that Anthony has lost all his ambition and can't get a job. But since I started working here, he's become insanely jealous: why am I late, when am I coming home, why am I dressed like such an ultra-fox. I mean, if it wasn't for the six times a day we make love, he'd be no fun at all.
Reminds me of this bit of dialogue from Cheers, specifically the young wife of Carla's son, Anthony. (I think right after, Norm sort of gasped and was like "Six? I can't think of anything I can do six times a day.")

🧵 We are watching two escalating conflicts at the same time:
• Pakistan–Afghanistan cross-border fighting
• Israel–Iran strikes, with spillover across the Gulf
These events may converge into a regional displacement crisis.
We probably should be, but also it will likely be funny in ways we can't really predict right now.

My premise is based on reality, which is a dangerous thing to reject. The government of Iran is awful and murderous. So are those of the US and Israel. Most of us know that. It was the latter two who started this new deadly conflict, which has already killed children. I would hope that bothers you.
