We probably should be, but also it will likely be funny in ways we can't really predict right now.

I'm sure that was the intent, but it rubs me the wrong way as someone who knows people who fled Iran during that time, who had their votes stolen from them in 2009, and who worried for comrades in the brutal Evin Prison. I'm not down with non-Iranians doing ironic posting about this dude.

Under his presidency the Iranian labor movement was suppressed even more than normal. He cracked down brutally on women who did not wear hijab and claimed that no one in Iran was gay. He was a vile right-wing piece of shit hated by every lefty Iranian I know, so to me this thread ain't it. 2/2

I was closely involved (as an ally) with a leftist anti-war/anti-sanctions/anti-IRI activist group of Iranians and Iranian-Americans during his presidency. He imprisoned (one of my friends fled Iran to avoid that fate) or killed a bunch of dissidents and almost certainly stole the 2009 election. 1/2

He was a brutal far right political leader reviled by a majority of Iranians. Of course that doesn’t excuse his murder nor the truly awful war of aggression that the US and Israel just launched. But yeah Ahmadinejad was extremely bad. Ironic embrace of his idiosyncrasies feels pretty “off” to me.

My premise is based on reality, which is a dangerous thing to reject. The government of Iran is awful and murderous. So are those of the US and Israel. Most of us know that. It was the latter two who started this new deadly conflict, which has already killed children. I would hope that bothers you.

What the genocide in Gaza reinforced is that there are no "civilians" when it comes to Israel and the United States. The rest of the world learned the same lesson and the consequences are going to be felt across the world.

It is clear now that the Omani foreign minister's sudden media blitz last night was an attempt to shame the United States by putting into the public record how readily Iran was prepared to reach a deal.

It’s probably the aspect of the season that bothers me the most. The Wolves health has been good (knock on wood) and they’ve frequently faced opponents at less than full strength. Given those factors, it absolutely feels like their record should be quite a bit better.

That would probably not be the first thing I would say in response to this post. (Fuck X, and I’d like for everyone left of center to never post there, but a moment of humanity might be nice—this news is a huge relief if what Mamdani said actually comes to pass.)

Students feel like they can’t enroll in majors like Af-Am Studies and WGSS because they’re getting messages from all sides that they’re not remunerative. And yet they desperately want the knowledge, so classes are full. That seems to be the situation everywhere.

These are “low enrollment” majors but the classes are regularly at capacity. They changed the funding structure a few years ago here, switching the allocation from course enrollments to majors then blamed these departments for a structural, top-down change. This is entirely a political choice.

Part of the reason the whole country hasn't been screaming about trans Kansans who drive being made criminals overnight is because there's so much else that's unconstitutional and horrifying.

But part of it is because it's happening to trans people.

So much commentary boils down to “I can’t believe they’d do this to white people” to me and maybe I’m wrong but that’s just how I feel.
