How California energy policy is holding back a game changing climate technology OPINION: Without major changes to the way Californians pay for energy, we’ll lose the precious opportunities new electric technologies provide.

High electricity prices are the single biggest roadblock to decarbonizing buildings and deploying heat pumps at scale.

We can solve these problems, but it’ll take public awareness (outrage?) & policy changes.

This new Colorado law mandating health hazard labels for gas stoves is great. Stuff that emits health hazards like cigarette smoke should be sold with health hazard labels (and taxes, but we'll get there) like cigarettes.

Gas is gross.

This with + heat pumps can do wonders! Also should revisit bike batteries…

It was a hard #9Av this year. Not for me personally -- I basically sat around and studied tragic literature, with a break to be tragic with others on Saturday night and Sunday afternoon -- but for the world at large, for so many people within it.

I noticed that, had the same thought! Cold-weather version later on.

Hadn't seen them before... so cool! Love the built-in ERV with filtration. But: their lowest operating temp is -15C... not cold enough as a standalone solution where I live. I guess there are tradeoffs in what you optimize for.

Damn. This at a moment when the left is being drastically outspent, and small dollar donors are key. The Dem party needs to kill this monster - zero tolerance for any consultant or candidate that works with them.

I recently complained/asked how to stop (there were no good answers) the Democratic fundraising texts. A friend shared this piece about what a total scam it is: "$11 million of the $678 million raised from individuals has made its way to candidates, campaigns, or the national party committees."

IMO: You will only get the transition at the speed necessary if you use policy and regulations to shutter fossil fuels.

At the same time, that policy is easier to pass when you have better and cheaper alternatives at hand.

It’s controversial in climate advocacy world to say, but I’ve always avoided the electrification message.

In addition to walking into the rhetorical punch of what about higher bills, we walk into the specter of blackouts.

That's realism: it's bad, we need do stuff, and let's do stuff and make it less bad, maybe even good.
