Earning was how she saved up for the expensive toys. After finishing her chores we'd pay [$age/hour] for washing cars, yardwork, painting, and other age-appropriate tasks. As a teen she learned (supervised) plumbing & electrical.
In high school she worked part-time at a Kumon center!

Book review: You’re On Your Own In our house, books have been an essential parenting tool. I must have read a six-foot stack of them just to try to find a clue our way through all the stages from pregnancy to college applications. Raising a money-smart kid Our college daughter (just survived freshman year!) spent the last couple weeks at home. As she was reviewing the packing list for next month's NROTC training, she noticed that it included traveler's checks. "Traveler's checks"?!? If you're at least in your 40s then you may have dim memories of using them in your youth. If you're in your 20s then you may not have any idea what they are or how they're used.
