Please help me spread the word!
At University of Iowa we are planning a World Class event next fall to rise awareness on #MASLD, the leading cause of chronic liver disease and transplant.
We will have a hybrid State of the Art Conference to which you are all invited!
More to come, for now, SAVE THE DATE!
I asked AI to draw me the way I feel! π€©
Each day I am less afraid of being, simply, myself π
I hope this picture inspires you all to shine like the stars you are! πͺπ«
A thread about myself π€
25.05.2025 21:33 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I don't know what new adventures life will bring, but I do know that I will be taking care of my patients, learning, and giving the best of myself. I hope I will never lose the vocation of service, the love for patients and for our profession.
25.05.2025 21:32 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0My father used to say that the only way to be eternal is to share knowledge. For one year I taught postgraduate courses to MIR students. My students found me extravagant, but I know they enjoyed it as much as I did!
And now I am an Associate Professor at Iowa!
Research allows me to push and challenge the boundaries of established knowledge. I completed my PhD where we developed a new experimental animal model, recurrent intermittent hyponatraemia.
I have been involved in several clinical research studies, working with national and international groups.
I implemented improvements that helped the department achieve more than 90% of its efficiency and patient experience targets in 2022 and 2023.
Pursuing my dream of working in Hepatology and Transplant, I am starting at the University of Iowa as an attending.
I developed innovative projects, such as the implementation of group consultations for the non-pharmacological approach to functional digestive disorders, and led audits, such as the appropriateness of ultrasound surveillance for hepatocarcinoma screening in hepatitis B.
25.05.2025 21:32 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I returned to Spain, where the Hospital Infanta Elena gave me the opportunity to grow, becoming Head of the Hepatology Department (2019-2021) and then Head of the Digestive System Department (2021-2024).
25.05.2025 21:32 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I did a fellowship in Advanced Hepatology and Liver Transplantation at St James's Hospital (Leeds) and then stayed there as a consultant for another 6 months. I learnt a lot and grew, both as a woman and as a doctor.
25.05.2025 21:32 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I gradually became interested in the liver and its diseases, especially advanced cirrhosis and its complications. This desire to know more, which has always characterised me, led me to the United Kingdom when I completed my residency in digestive diseases at the RamΓ³n y Cajal Hospital (Madrid).
25.05.2025 21:32 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Now that I am a doctor, I understand medicine as compassion, getting close to the pain of others and doing what one can to alleviate it. What I like most about being a doctor is being able to make connections with patients.
25.05.2025 21:32 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I knew I wanted to be a doctor when my father helped an old man who had fainted. In the following years, I loved having breakfast with my parents, both doctors, listening to them discuss clinical cases and admiring how they unravelled symptoms to arrive at a diagnosis and assess treatment options.
