Shikabane from Aggretsuko season 5. I like her design.

It's taken a while for Alice's design to settle but I think it's getting closer to what I want now.

In the most ham-fisted way possible, sure.

Makes me question if the writers actually know what an organically growing relationship actually looks like.

Yeah sorry I watch Schaffrillas too, but I find his takes very questionable at times, and this only reinforces that view.

No hate to the guy, I just flat out disagree with him.

I think the first movie was near perfect.

The second feels like a mediocre cash-grab to me, despite being nearly 10 years later. Inexplicable.

Oh well, to each their own I guess.

I appreciate that.

In the end, I am just expressing my thoughts out loud. I'm not interested in convincing you to think any other way; If you enjoyed the movie, more power to you.

I just found it flawed, and I will express as much when prompted.

22.02.2026 06:36 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

It has well-intentioned themes, certainly. It can only be so biting because yeah Disney, but I respect it's intent in the abstract at least.

But I don't think any of it will mean much unless the rest of the movie is compelling, and I just think. . .it kinda isn't.

He needs something else too.

Is he awkward but smart? No, he helps save Judy will leads him his failure.
Is he awkward but dangerous? He can't even 1v1 Nick.

A villain who is socially awkward is a unique idea that I'd still like to see done well. Pawbert isn't that, imo.

22.02.2026 06:31 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

I argue he changes just as much as any other average twist villain, maybe even including Bellwether.

He goes from seeming sincere and kind to being absolutely heartless. The one trait that doesn't change is, sure enough, his awkwardness.

But awkwardness doesn't make a good villain on it's own.

It feels like parody of relationship therapy.

And it's so very Tell-Dont-Show of them to just spout out their character arcs in the climax of the movie.

A movie with better pacing/writing would communicate the same with gradual nuance, instead of just saying it all outloud.

22.02.2026 06:24 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

I don't mean "redeeming" in the since that he has to be morally redeemed.

I just mean something that makes him likable despite being a villain. That could be hidden positive morals, or it could be simple charisma, or just being really damn good at being evil.

He has literally none of those.

22.02.2026 06:21 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

As is, I'm giving you the benefit of doubt and respecting your opinion even if I disagree. Do the same for me.

Don't endanger that dynamic by assuming you know my mind better than I do from a handful of sentences here.

22.02.2026 06:18 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Yeah, the specific way I want villains is to be written well.

Friend, don't make assumptions about what I think. Because you're probably wrong and also because I could make some very unflattering assumptions about what you think if you wanna go down that road.

22.02.2026 06:18 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

I can't even really address the broader themes of the movie until I can first take the main characters seriously. They're kinda flanderized versions of their movie 1 selves, and so is their relationship.

I don't care if they eventually kiss, so long as writing up to that is good. So far, it's not.

22.02.2026 06:14 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

--him sympathetic. "Wanting to fit in with family" isn't enough when he also thinks so little of betraying friendship and killing people in cold blood; A for what? To fit in with other obviously evil people? Now he just seems naturally evil *and* a loser with no redeeming traits or skills.

22.02.2026 06:11 β€” πŸ‘ 6    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

I don't care if Pawbert was there from the beginning. If anything it's worse because his own *early* actions lead to his own downfall; Incompetent villian.

And like I said, his 'trauma' isn't convincing to me because it mostly has to be inferred; And he has no positive traits to admire or to make--

22.02.2026 06:11 β€” πŸ‘ 5    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Bellwether reflects the themes of the movie. Her history is unknown beyond the assumption she suffers the same as most prey, but because she's mostly competent as a villain and not framed as personally sympathetic we don't really need that focus.

Hardly the best villian ever, but she is functional.

22.02.2026 06:11 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

It's very ham-fisted, yeah. Like for one second I thought the rapid-fire therapy speak was a gag, but they *kept* going, and then I realized "Oh no, the writers think this is serious".

It makes me question if the writers know what a natural growing relationship dynamic actually sounds like.

22.02.2026 05:56 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Allegory is tricky, though I personally think the first movie did okay with it.

But I'm of the mind that you can't world-build around multiple layering allegories; At some point the metaphors start to fall apart, and I think that already happens in the second movie.

22.02.2026 05:53 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

I'm not sold on his trauma, as presented in the movie at least. In practice he comes across as just as evil and irredeemable as his family but stupider and less ruthless; terrible qualities for a main villain.

22.02.2026 05:47 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

I have to disagree. Pawbert as a twist villain feels forced and unnatural; His plan only works on the forward momentum of the movie and retroactively makes her earlier actions non-sensical.

Not gonna say Bellweather deserves an award, I think she was at least cohesive to the plot.

Finally go around to watching Zootopia 2.

It was entertaining but. . . I hate to say it, kinda shallow compared to the first.

Can't say I'm looking forward to a third movie if this is the baseline now.

Despite how excellent the news may seem, do not get comfortable just yet

One key word to take this away from; "Halted," which means, the Age Verification junk is very much alive and there's a possibility they'll be trying this again

Keep the pressure going, do not let them get away with this
