I need at least 3 more folk to sign up for my Edinburgh Adult Education Programme archaeology classes at Craigentinny, or the course will be cancelled. If you know anyone who might be interested, please let them know. Thank you!

Social media slow down.
I'm changing the way i use social media. It's a notice board, not a diary. I will not posting here or Instagram & Mastodon unless I have news. New work, new classes, exhibitions or similar updates will be posted but that's all.
My first thought was 64 because the box is (probably) a square.

Slightly angled photo from above two small tables with beginners working at simple knitting machines. The tables are facing each other and you can see the hands of each student working on their projects.
That's the first beginners machine knitting workshop of 2026 done. I was very impressed with the finished neckwamers. I hope both students will be dusting off and setting up their home machines soon.
Fancy having a go, too?

A small little bit of both advice and a plea for using Bluesky.
This platform doesn't have an algorithm for content.
If your default response to seeing something cool is to hit like, take a second to hit the Repost button too.
Especially if it's a cool indie product, a show, some art, whatever.
A piece of pale green knitting with small repeating patterns in darker grey green, lying on the keyboard of a laptop and partly propped on the screen. The mostly white screen shows the Img2Track software and the chart of one pattern ready to load into my knitting machine (not pictured).
After a holiday season dominated by illness (mine and other people's) and admin, I'm looking forward to getting back into the studio to continue exploring the knitting potential of tile agar patterns in Conway's Game of Life.

Today's exchange of posts with @noneucldreamer.bsky.social got me thinking about Botanica Mathematica. This installation explores taxonomy and mathematical growth patterns using knitted forms.
I'd love to see it exhibited again. Any suggestions?

Thank you. Our inspiration was a book - The Algorithmic Beauty of Plants. www.algorithmicbotany.org/papers/#abop
For Botanica Mathematica we mostly looked a branching patterns and taxonomy but there's so much more to explore.
Love this! It reminds me of the L-system crochet we developed for the Botanica Mathematica project.

Bored over the festive season? We're still seeking contributions to our ridiculous saytheprime.com video project: sign up and make a 5-minute video of yourself saying a chunk of digits of the largest known prime number. Can we finish before they discover a bigger one? It's a race against maths!

These wrist warmers have 28 ends to hide per pair. Four can be used for hand stitching the seams. If I had seamed them on the linker I'd have created another 8 ends to sew but would have trapped the original 28 in the seam. Why did I think it wasn't worth getting the linker out for just one pair?
