There’s something so satisfying about the weight of them :)

I’ve been reading Heisinger’s β€œThe Self-Assembling Brain” and enjoying it. He covers some of the same ground with algorithmic information theory and development of neuronal networks.

I’ve been preparing for this ever since they started coming for my beloved em dash.

A finch or sparrow on a plastic decoy owl on a rooftop. The owl is a bird deterrent but its not working very well.

Never talk to me or my giant plastic wife *ever again*.

Best therapist I ever had responded to something I said about my motivations with β€œwell that sounds like bullshit”

And it was. He knew I held myself to a higher standard of introspection.

This looks amazing. I’m currently writing a paper on AI in disinformation detection and information verification for grad school.

Sadly… I also currently have an embargo on trips to the US. Another time, another place…

I hope it’s a wonderful and enriching event!

Yes. LLM responses are based on statistical averages. They’re literally designed for middle-of-the-road answers.

The Whitecaps played a really good match though. That double post had me out of my chair.

My great uncle spent the last decades of his life in a cabin in the woods of rural Nova Scotia. A sign on the lane read β€œFor these are my mountains, and I’m coming home.”

Your post reminded me of him, and that place. ❀️

Malignant narcissists believe that they’re special in so many ways. I have little doubt he’s in full denial about aging.

On a related note: I wish more people (everyone) knew that de-anonymization of personal data is a thing. It’s all fine to consent to your β€œanonymous” data being sent to companies, but once that’s added to a big enough data pool (thanks, data brokers!) it can be enough to identify you.

as far as I know the rules and interpretations haven’t changed in the last 3 years, no. So I myself may have been unclear on how the rules are applied for dementia cases.
I hope your mother and your family can have some moments of peace and recognition and compassion. My heart goes out to you. 3/3

advance, and the onset of dementia is so gradual that that kind of waiver, given say a year in advance, would start to look like an advance directive, which isn’t currently done. There’s active debate around whether advance directives fit within the current legislation, but 2/

Hi - it’s true that the family can’t make that decision on the patient’s behalf.
I got some more clarification about how dementia is handled currently. There’s a Waiver of Final Consent, for when the patient won’t be able to give final consent when the time comes, but it’s usually given days in 1/

01.12.2025 13:35 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

In cases where it’s expected the patient will reach a point where they’d no longer pass the assessment, the assessment can be done and they can grant consent beforehand. I’m so sorry your mother wasn’t able to take this option. I hope there are supports in place to care for her as much as possible.

star trek is about a utopian vision of the future bordering on fantasy where people someday will be able to make good choices about complicated problems by talking to each other and involving people who know about things

Mrs. Belinda Eafiod does not deserve all these people showing up at her door looking for scallops, but has been handling it with good humour and grace.
