Whatโ€™s this from? Iโ€™ve been working on this issue from different levels of government, and with a notable expert involved in @davidzipper.bsky.social

The Order of Ottawa holds up for recognition residents of our city "who have brought honour and prestige to themselves" through their contributions to the City. No doubt, Watson accomplished many things, but with such a tainted record of scandals & failures, how do you derive honour & prestige?

I've never been to an Order of Ottawa ceremony. I'd hoped to attend this year, but I can't support the idea of being there when former Mayor Jim Watson is presented an award that he should not be given. It feels like I'd be complicit in something horribly obscene. 1/

Can you elaborate on โ€œthe Greenbank intersection is being built to a different designโ€?

โ€œNo more sufferin on Dufferin!โ€ Hereโ€™s a shining example from Toronto of what dedicated bus lanes can do for commuter traffic. This is what residents can experience on Baseline, or Merivale, or so many other transportation corridors.

โ€œThis is an innovation super-cycle. Whatโ€™s happening here in Kanata is the gold standard of the kind of investment we want to see,โ€ says Minister Evan Solomon about Nokiaโ€™s Innovation Campus.

As @mayormarksutcliffe.bsky.social says in regards to Nokiaโ€™s Innovation Campus, this is โ€œa great day for Ottawaโ€. Good joke to the Finnish Ambassador to Canada: โ€œWe think of Nokia as an Ottawa company.โ€

Itโ€™s become abundantly clear that Ottawaโ€™s future depends on getting the City moving again. In too many ways, weโ€™re stuck. Expect to hear a lot more from me on this subject in the coming months. Itโ€™s time to get on board.

If you embrace innovation and efficiency, then mass rail transit should be your goal. And when thereโ€™s an option to augment local transit through the cost-effective re-purposing of existing rail infrastructure, itโ€™s a no-brainer. 5/

Ottawaโ€™s a growing city with a growing economy that will only see its full potential realized if we fully get on board with rail transit: ALTOโ€™s high-speed rail connecting cities, and local rail connecting communities and strategic centres. 4/

Itโ€™s one more reason that Iโ€™m advocate for a re-think of Ottawaโ€™stransportation plans, centred around the transformation of CN Railโ€™s Beachburg Corridor into a major east-west transit corridor connecting our cityโ€™s strategic centres and intersecting existing transit lines. 3/

This campus will boast an astonishing one million square feet, continuing to advance the Kanata Tech Parkโ€™s transition towards being a mixed residential/industrial community. Multiple similar developments happening around here. And why else does that excite me? 2/

Itโ€™s very exciting to be present at the groundbreaking / announcement for Nokiaโ€™s Innovation Campus. Economic development like this will continue to center Ottawa as a global leader in tech innovation. 1/

When much the Cityโ€™s self-described โ€œsavings and efficienciesโ€ include deferrals of capital investments as well as reduced fuel costs resulting from the elimination of the Carbon Tax, itโ€™s more accurate to call it โ€œcost avoidanceโ€ and โ€œblind luckโ€.

Indeed.

And yet weโ€™re expecting that traffic will flow smoothly when the new arena and stadium are holding events simultaneously at Lansdowne 2.0, as per the projectโ€™s rationale.

Yes, but they couldnโ€™t iron the tie? It looks like they just unfolded it 5 minutes before Zohran put it on.

We didnโ€™t use BlueSky or Twitter or Facebook since Iโ€™m pretty sure that most of my โ€œfollowersโ€ on those platforms are not Ward 9 residents, whereas the vast majority of newsletter subscribers are.

We just used our newsletter. And it was just the online survey questionnaire. I think we advertised (in the newsletter) that weโ€™d be doing it a few issues prior to its release. And the survey itself was running for 2 - 3 weeks, I think. We got 665 responses, and compiled the data based on that.

Dude, chill. I canโ€™t make a comment on something as politically shocking as that? Shouldnโ€™t I be cognizant of the neighbouring political sphere? Is it wrong if I utter anything outside my job as councillor? Because my next post was going to be about a recipe for scalloped potatoes. That okay?

Your 12 years in service continues to be an inspiring model for me, though I donโ€™t know if Iโ€™d last that long, given the opportunity by the voters. You were wise to run as a long-distance marathon runner, not as a sprinter. Glad to always have your sage advice at the ready!

As you know well, residents benefit from the scale of your involvement, in direct correlation. Days that start at 7:30am and end at 11:30pm are not at all abnormal. It helps to love doing it (as you did) to prevent fatigue from becoming complacency, or lack of care. 3/

I remember hearing you say after you ceased being in public office that you were looking forward to cooking again. While I still cook (itโ€™s something I enjoy) I still find all the things I donโ€™t have time for: paying with my band, going out to a movie. The job takes a lot of time. 2/

I hear ya! But whatโ€™s also true, and this is why you did it for as long as you did (12 years!!!!) is that the work is so rewarding. 1/

Wow. When this is a line in the New York Times:

"Hours after Mr. Trumpโ€™s posts, including one that amplified a call to 'HANG THEM,' the White House press secretary denied that Mr. Trump wanted to execute members of Congress."

The past few weeks have been non-stop, and another month to go! Today started with an early breakfast panel discussion on affordable home ownership, and ends with a late community meeting on an infrastructure project. In between, committee budget meetings, resident casework, and so many emails!

Sure, that option wouldn't lead to profitability for OSEG, but OSEG's profitability is not the City's concern. This needs to become an election issue.

There was a feasible alternative, and one that the PWHL Charge confirmed to me would keep them in Ottawa and at Lansdowne. That option was to leave the arena as it is with repairs and upgrades. That was always an option for the City, and one that should've been thoroughly assessed. 3/

19.11.2025 05:00 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 7    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Mayor Sutcliffe, the City Manager and Councillors routinely stated that Ottawa only had one choice: Lansdowne 2.0 or economic ruin. They also falsely suggested that the only option that would meet the Charge's needs was to build an even larger arena for $100 million more. 2/
