a weird little personal fic tradition I've latched onto is that I mentally assign a different josh ritter song to each finished fic I write. the giant 95k WIP that haunts me has never had one, but "wild ways" came out today and feels exactly right

work procrastination this week is definitely driving me to my drafts as well

I think this came from @starksfelling.bsky.social but “some words are better than no words” always helps me feel better about incremental progress!

also, tbh, maybe I needed to age seven years in order to write what this fic became. sometimes different life experiences allow you to write something differently and there’s a beauty in that too! anyway, even if no one reads it, I’m proud of finishing something after so long.

3. I have so many WIPs! for the time traveler’s wife au, I think…hopeful I’ll finish? still interested? for the 90K HP fic that’s technically been my current WIP for 14 years, I feel deeply tied to it and also afraid I’m going to just keep dragging it around for another decade+

probably all the research I did on regency lingerie and terminology for lavender haze, at least in terms of going down a rabbit hole! and then I just have so much random boston info from the bachelor au, including a woman-owned wine bar whose socials I still follow for some reason

I don’t think the bachelor au needs a proper sequel, but the “5 conversations anthony has after edmund is born” fic is set in that universe and I’d like to finish that someday, just to add a little postscript to their happy ending! and the siena/edwina and eloise/phil fics in that universe

following a writer to a random new fandom and getting hooked is such a delightful fandom occurrence!

anyway if you remember which fics converted you to a ship, what were they?

(most of mine I came to on my own or from following friends, but there are a few fics that solidified certain ships for me, namely honey_wheeler's "the summer queen" for jonsa and everything edwardina wrote for glee)

woke up to a comment telling me that my fic, which they read back in the pre-ao3 days, was the very fic that had once made them like that ship so much, and if there's a higher honor out there I don't know of it

this is a very good selling point! honestly the biggest fun of an AU for me is trying to fit in all the tiny canon details possible so I’m intrigued
