It seems that most politicians are sponsored by groups like AIPAC and the Heritage Foundation, so these politicians are going to serve the sponsor, and not the citizens. A democracy WILL NOT WORK unless these sponsorships are limited and made public, IF that is possible.

‘Residential protesting’ could be a crime in Minnesota under new GOP proposal A bill that’s backed by a coalition of GOP lawmakers set to be proposed at the start of the upcoming session would make “residential protesting" punishable under Minnesota law.

The GOP is once again showing its disdain for the Constitution.

What’s so weird about men in power is how when they face scandal and should step down the world acts like no one else can do their jobs. Bottstein, Wasserman, these aren’t irreplaceable men! Stop with this delusion.

We live in a world addicted to speed and noise. Reading is one of the only things that properly forces you to slow down. To sit with things you don’t immediately understand. That kind of patience feels odd right now in a world that’s so focused on quick productivity. Books heal.

Excerpt reads: "Prioritize your neighborhood
Neighborhoods drive our happiness (or unhappiness) more than we think.

When Lina Martinez, director of POLIS, the Center for Wellbeing Studies at Universidad Icesi in Colombia, studied the happiness of households in the city of Cali, she couldn’t find much difference between poorer and richer areas. “Their happiness is pretty much the same,” she said. But that changed when she isolated neighborhood conditions, such as access to transit, health care and parks. “The conditions of the neighborhood affect happiness,” she said. “I can’t link that to the space where [people] live.”

That aligns with findings from a 2023 study of the Vancouver metro area: Researchers found no significant differences in well-being between people living in single detached homes, duplexes, townhouses, laneway houses and apartment buildings (basement units smaller than 300 square feet were the only negative exception). What did people say they missed most in their neighborhood? Affordability, proximity to family and friends, and a sense of community. Home design was eighth on the list."

A Washington Post article suggests that, beyond a certain threshold, larger homes don't make people happier. Instead, well-being is correlated with affordable housing in walkable neighborhoods where they feel socially connected.

We thought using a 5 year old as BAIT was the bottom. We were wrong.

ICE agents are distributing flyers at Anne Sullivan STEAM School in Minneapolis offering Food Support to families.

Casual reminder that the myth of “pulling yourself up by your bootstraps” is a cruel hoax designed to convince poor people from all walks of life that the injustices they face are a result of their own actions, rather than an oppressive system rigged against them.

"The myth of laziness Socialism."

An amazing explanation for why it isn't true that in Socialist societies where working class people have their basic human needs met, that they will become lazy. All of that is just lies and propaganda spread by the capitalist ruling classes.

Every few years, the US govt shuts down, and this year, the ruling class wanna end programs like SNAP. Millions of working class people; the ones whose labour keep society running, are left to starve and die. And yet, nobody ever asks why the "richest country on Earth" even needs food stamps.

African-American boxing legend, Mohammed Ali, talking about his refusal to go to Vietnam and kill a bunch of poor people, while the capitalist, white supremacist and imperialist government of the United States of America was actively segregating and genociding African-Americans at home.

Capitalism wants us productive. Art reminds us to be present. Capitalism wants content. Art wants meaning. Capitalism isolates. Art connects. Even when made in private, even when it never leaves your notebook, art is still a way back to yourself. Above all, art connects us to the spirit of creation.

Refusing to be numb is a radical act.

Caring about the earth while they drill it.

Caring about strangers while they deport them.

Caring about truth while they erase it.

You’re not ‘too sensitive.’ Don’t let them make you be ashamed of your empathy and humanity. You’re still human. Stay that way.

They say books won’t change the world.

Tell that to every colonizer who burned them.

To every enslaved person who was punished for reading.

Literacy is resistance.

Literacy is liberation.

The library is a battlefield.
