05.12.2025 12:18 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Yeah, I think the problem is probably that I'm now using the same keyboard for both with different maps. Hadn't occurred to me to move the Mac keys to feel like everyone else's!
05.12.2025 12:17 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0My _mac_ on the other hand! I'm forever fighting muscle memory over it's unique keyboard shortcuts, and when I veer slightly into tinkering it's such a different system to Linux and one that really doesn't want to be diagnosed. Reading that piece I can't imagine him finding macos less frustrating!
04.12.2025 23:33 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0My laptop is mostly a Firefox and file manager machine at the moment and I'm dimly aware that I should have Wayland problems, but I don't, for instance. I've never had to think about that scaling thing, I just set it in gnome and it's worked for everything I run.
04.12.2025 23:29 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0I've wondered about a thing recently, where most Linuxes are great if you do 100% dull stuff on them or if you're a full on tinkerer, but are really bad at the slightly odd use cases (like RTL and LTR language mixing, mounting a phone on a laptop, running keepassx, whatever it is that's chrome-only)

As someone who grew up without the notion of Santa I've often wondered what the norm is for when the kid realises - I guess normally the kid has doubts for a while and then by the time they're sure they don't want to admit to having ever believed, so there's not normally an actual conversation?

22.11.2025 17:48 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I use it near-daily and this is not my experience. I does a lot of "I don't know", which makes sense given the state of our docs, but I don't recall ever having had a useless answer from it.
22.11.2025 08:13 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Yeah, I'm sure it does. I don't really care about other docs being quietly used, though - the model here and the useful feature is that it gives me a summary and then some further-reading to do if the summary doesn't answer all of my questions

15.11.2025 21:33 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I wonder if there's a thing in here about how little reason there is to upgrade beyond staying in support. No useful new capabilities that would historically have driven upgrades.
Or maybe I'm just looking back with rose-tinted specs to a time when I was more easily excited by new OS upgrades?
This is really fun!

14.11.2025 22:07 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I think this is a folk memory of an earlier macos, before stuff like the 'cut' option disappeared from finder, a before Apple Music became unremovable etc.
I've recently started using macos and it is _not_ the experience long-term Mac users seem to think it is
Yeah, current employer is all mac, and I've been agitating for a Windows option for a while because device management just isn't there (yet?)
I remember the future of this looking rosy 10 years ago though...
Oh! Profiles in the stable release! This has long been my low-key conspiracy theory around Google's conditions for continued financing of FF :)
I've been restarting my browser every morning for _weeks_, using FF Nightly to have profile-switching

However, it was Robinhood that decided to run from a single AWS region, and not be preapred to fail over, like other, more resillient AWS users did...
Extremely funny that INFOWARS has agreed not to publish anything without the explicit consent of the US government
