I'm always willing to experiment with different books and read new stuff. I'll check those out! Right now Crash by J.G Ballard, and The Hellbound Heart by Clive Barker are my inspo. But Toni Morrison and Octavia Butler always influence my style.

Where do your inspirations come from

Anxiety, jealousy, and failure exist in those spaces BECAUSE of Humanity, bc we're just like everyone else. And that can be taken advantage of. In "Her Dark Pleasures" being the #polyamorous or #queer isn't the horror.

Denying our feelings so we score moral points and selfishness is the horror.

Writing about #lgbtq #polyam is great, but some folks will be angry if you don't give the "right" representation.

To me the right representation is being human. #wip #writesky #writelife #booksky

The #nsfw #WIP is grotesque and it's about the anxiety of failing at being understanding, or having a hole only a God or a dangerous dominate #kinkster could help you fill...and it's the most sexy and violent thing I have been apart of. And it does make me worry but I love it. #booksky #amwriting

#wips #booksky #horrorlit one of the hardest things about writing erotic horror really seems to be "how do you communicate subtly and clearly in a world that has so many people who's responses to complex subjects is black and white thinking?"

Reading the transcript had me blinking the whole time. I wish I could remember his name, but this dude was popular for being a college educated racist, but he had the critical thinking skills of a flat worm

This reminds me of one of my favorite interviews where the white supremacist basically said that the only reason Asian test scores are higher than whites are because white people are lazy. The exceptions are morphed into a mythology that further justifies authoritarianism

β€œWhat keeps us going, ultimately, is our love for each other, and our refusal to bow our heads, to accept the verdict, however all-powerful it seems. It’s what ordinary people have to do. You have to love each other. You have to defend each other. You have to fight.” β€”Mike Davis

If anyone needed another reminder of how deeply unpopular the Trump-MAGA Republican agenda is, tonight was the night.

But we cannot relent and we cannot become complacent.

The midterms are right around the corner.

Writing horror is apparently an unexpected skill of mine. Kinda shocked

What have you made that revealed an unexpected talent?

Writer pals, as we venture into β€œbest of” list season, remember to focus on your other accomplishments.

That new draft, the books you’ve read to hone your craft…

Maybe the new thing you’re doing outside of writing (these are so important!)

Zero in on what you can control, and keep your head up. ❀️

And I'll be real it's specifically a lot of the white folks around me who are so down for the cause but they have no real historical understanding of militias in this country.

The Black Panthers needed to exist to protect their communities. That can exist alongside community intiatives

You know what f*** it
My problem with acab is people want to act like poor people would replace police with only community based initiatives Like poor people weren't part of the KKK.

Look I don't think that surprises many people anymore. One thing I've learned as a creative and a person is... A lot of these white folks don't think anyone is anything more than a walking flaming stereotype

Dude those are just rum balls after the sugars settled instead of staying in powdered form towards the end. I'm going to guess or not rum based since it's an office party but that's a pretty old school and common thing even in the black community

I'm going to be deeply vulnerable here, #writers, having been in a relationship with someone who spent $10k+ on courses focused on turning them into AI marketers... The situation is only going to get worse because **they're true believers**

6 panel comic

P1: A sad looking bean of a man --head down-- walks like a sad bean down a walled laneway. Floating silently behind him is the platonic ideal of a ghost.

"Everywhere I go..."

P2: The guy is now sad in front of an old school looking desktop computer, in a darkened room. His face is lit up by the monitor. The ghost looks in over the back of the chair.

"Everything I do..."

P3: Now the guy is lying in bed, staring upward. The ghost lays in the bed beside him, turning to stare right at the guy.

"They haunt me"

P4: An extreme closeup of the ghost's featureless face, consisting of only two black ovals for eyes. They stare directly at us.

"My ghost of past regrets... of the roads not taken..."

P5: the guy now sits at a table by a window, his hands both clasped around a steaming cup of coffee. He stares wistfully out at nothing in particular.

Behind him, down the end of the room, the ghost peeks out from the other side of a darkened doorway.

"There are days when I barely notice their presence--"

P6: We are now on a wide shot of a lake. The sun is setting against a pink sky.

"--but, no matter what, they are always with me..."

In the foreground --in silhouette and from the side-- the guy walks along the shoreline, the ghost in tow.

"My constant companion."

What's interesting about writing the story I'm co-writing is the original draft are already written and it's becoming this larger story so in a way it's already outlined but it's getting beefed up so themes are a lot more horror driven

So what's been happening

So Donald Trump has the aesthetic of someone who thinks they have class because something looks sparkly and shiny, and I want to see what happens when people realize he has the same aesthetic as 45+ something year old working class brown aunties who have mirrors everywhere

It’s extraordinary that anyone would even think β€˜the normies won’t care about the East Wing’. Conservation of built heritage is one of the most powerful normie causes going, it matters enough to have entire fields of law in every country, and an industry strong enough to employ people like me

Spooky Season Nonfiction to Add to Your TBR Since the Reanimator Mysteries sit firmly on the morbid side of research, I have acquired and read a lot of nonfiction books that are great for the Halloween season, so I thought I would share them…

Anyone looking for some Halloween-flavored nonfiction to finish off spooky season?
I made a list of some of my recent favorite spooky and morbid nonfiction.

A lot of "protests so nothing" talk on the left offers none of these steps, in fact they offer no ideas beyond leftist defeatism or lack an understanding that American politics make general striking life threatening for many people in our current system
