Yong Zhao: What Works Can Hurt: Side Effects in Education This medicine can reduce fever, but it can cause a bleeding stomach. When you buy a medical product, you are given information about both its effects and side effects. But such practice does not exist...

What other warning labels should education come with?

It is true, though, that there's a lot of communism. I took some to Goodwill last week but then just yesterday I tripped over some more in the garage.

Hi, folks: please help to spread the word about these excellent opportunities. Our first-year enrollment jumped 80% last year, so we're growing, and looking for folks who walk the walk about evidence-based instruction and research!

Sad but true. Two post retirement book projects that I’m thinking about. One is about cheese. The other is retracing the month long Brit rail trip a buddy and I took in 1986. I’m already mourning the many ways that trip cannot be duplicated.

We're hiring a department chair, a scholar in Capstone research & tenure-track & non-tenure-track faculty in math, bio, and chem. We saw an 80% jump in our first year class this year & we serve a deeply and wonderfully diverse student population. Best place I've ever worked! Feel free to DM me.

I like the part where someone came into my office today to talk about some difficult issues and ended up reading their poetry to me.

Where's the emoji for I have the best damn job in the world?

while grading I found myself about to say a few times, β€œthis prose feels empty in an AI sort of way,” in cases where I had no idea if the student used AI, but the empty prose simply β€œfelt” sorta fake & I think it’s fascinating how AI has so quickly become a synonym for meaningless, empty, useless

Yes. And I'd add that this all feels like a weird discussion to me. The world is filled with literally millions of people who didn't go to prestigious universities. And yet somehow they live very happy lives and contribute to the wellbeing of humanity. Prestige can be a sucker's game.
