Are you feeling tired, jaded, want a lift, want to be reminded what you enjoy about this industry, want to learn some new stuff?

Have you ever been to a Manchester Tech Festival event (UK)?

If you have, you'll already have fond memories. If you haven't, you're in for a treat! >>>

I'm really sad that I've never yet been able to take @estherderby.bsky.social and Don Gray's Problem Solving Leadership (PSL) course. I've heard so many great things about it from so many people.

It teaches people how to build and lead the best possible teams.

Fast feedback. Inexpensive.
No permission needed. Easy.

Agree. And these account for many of the problems that we see in complex adaptive systems… like organizations. In that case, I like to do little experiments that aren’t gonna cause a big impact or big disruption to see how they’re gonna affect the system. I like them to be FINE…

06.03.2025 04:28 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

I think there's another aspect as well. When you can make a hundred bets and only one has to succeed, this strategy may be attractive.

But again, that assumes that the risks and costs (esp. to humans) are negligible. (Or you don't care.)

06.03.2025 04:00 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Indeed.

06.03.2025 03:56 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Well, I suspect it depends on who chooses the values. If you don't care who gets hurt, breaking things may seem fine.

When is "move fast and break things" a valid strategy?

When is it idiotic and/or unethical?

Discuss.

The savings from cutting labor costs shows up right away. The costs of cutting ppl doesn't show up right away. Neither do the savings from actually fixing things.

Medicinal Positivity Too much of a good thing doesn't mean you shouldn't have any!

Hi all! I have a new post up on my Embracing Agility blog called Medicinal Positivity. Rather than complaining about the world, I decided to write about something positive, which is what I've experienced over 35+ years in software delivery that works.

You can’t judge people only by how they treat you. The true test of character is how they treat those they don't like or need.

Even if someone is kind to you, proceed with caution if they’re consistently unkind to others.

Selective civility is a sign of deep-seated hostility.
