Piping Plovers chicks are precocial, meaning they hatch in an advanced state and are able to feed themselves and move independently almost immediately.

I spent my morning watching the 3 recently hatched piping plover chicks scamper about Montrose Beach alongside parents Imani and Sea Rocket! What a great start to the day, and another great chapter for the endangered birds.

And then there was one. This Piping Plover chick hatched on May 31st together with their 3 siblings. Only one remains. Predation of Piping Plovers comes from crabs, cats, dogs, gulls and more.

Remembering Nish on His Hatch Day

As someone said prior, the only reason Greta got released is because people were very loud about her specifically. There are still 8 other flotilla members detained, apparently without fresh water in bedbug infested prison. They all deserve to be fought for, too.
