There’s a conspiracy theory on TikTok that these e-ink displays change the price according to which customer walks by it, as a form of price discrimination. Personally when I see them I think, β€œthis is an efficiently run grocery store and probably has good prices.”

(putting tin foil hat on) have you ever noticed how all the hype cycles of the last 10 years are about tokens?

first we mined them. then we minted them and made them non-fungible. now we’re doing inference on them. this needs to stop. we can’t support Big Token any longer

Cool deep-dive into Wafrn's dual-protocol experience.

I always say Wafrn is Bridgy Fed turned up to 11. Instead of depending on a bridge to bring you content, the platform treats both atproto and ActivityPub as native.

I would say one of the main right-wing projects of the past twenty years has been gaming every web 2.0 platform into thinking the right-wing is much bigger and more influential than it actually is. And the people who have been most taken in by this effort has been the right wing

The screenshot of the release notes reads:

A new version of TeX Live Utility is available!
TeX Live Utility 1.55 is now available-you have 1.54. Would you like to download it now?
Release Notes:
Changes Since 1.54
β€’ Fix bug 137, homepage link in Help Book.
β€’ First release in a long time, since I don't use TeX anymore and resent the very idea of paying Apple annually for the privilege of giving away free and open-source software. Also, I'm really lazy. Please accept my apologies for all the annoying issues you've encountered in this mission-critical software.
β€’ Updated mirror list, which was three years out of date.
β€’ Added missing legacy mirrors, which was even more out of date.
β€’ Added an alert on startup when user tries Homebrew's lobotomized MacTex, because those lunatics left timgr but removed its database.
Thanks for nothing, guys. Bug 142 and 144.
β€’ Use a custom user-agent to work around the Anubis bot trap on texlive.info. Can't wait to see what else breaks because of this, thanks to the profusion of degenerate Artificial Insemination fetishists scraping websites to feed their models.
β€’ Lists of countries in Repository/Continent are now sorted. No idea how you people let me get away with that one for the last fifteen years.

There's a "is anyone even reading this" sort of honesty you get in the software update release notes from a project that's been around for a long time.

Permissioned Data Diary 2: Buckets The second in a series of posts building up a solution to permissioned data on atproto. We introduce buckets: a new protocol primitive for creating a shared social context.

new blog post on permissioned data in atproto! this one introduces "buckets", the protocol-level primitive for shared access control. I walk through two approaches that don't quite work and land on something that I think does

let me know your thoughts!

it's not the issue of this story, but it is a transparent example of how the "cars are freedom" narrative is a complete farce. when the state controls your movement and can immobilize you on a whim, you are not free. car dependency is an arm of fascism for the car *IS* fascism and must be abolished.

the great thing about applying for a lot of jobs is that you get to interact with a lot of workday instances, all of which are terrible. for example, this one parsed my resume and thinks my god damn name is Ryan Computing

I reckon Bluesky may want to support β€œunlisted” posts. Not private, just not on feeds by default.

These are insanely useful for things like comment systems on blogs, blento’s guestbook, fallback messages for feeds, and more β€” places where you want to post, but have them silo’d off.

People desperately want a solution to high housing prices that does not require building new homes in their neighborhoods. No such solution exists. If we want lower rents and home prices, we need to build more homes in the places people want to live. Anyone who says otherwise is bullshitting you.

This is perfectly fine news. It does not change the situation that some people idly realized (and will in many cases stop thinking about) which is a galaxy of unique information, conversations and archives are locked into a proprietary conversation system run by a VC-backed company seeking profit.
