Nothing changes if nothing changes… I find the way that organisational change is led, negotiated, avoided and ultimately realised to be completely fascinating. In particular, change that moves from chaos to clarity.

It is important to acknowledge the risks and challenges that lay in change… but it is more important to recognise that growth and progress come from change.

Very special to hear Alan Bennett talking about his life and work today. Could listen to him all day long. What a rare talent and complete living legend - made me laugh and cry. Lovely birthday present ❤️

Think more before you ‘do’

As we move from the Summer Hols, where most of us have embraced slowness & having time to properly think(never to be undervalued) ~ what reflections or advice would you offer new colleagues & NQTs, on maintaining a sense of slowness, balance and purpose?

I have 89 survey responses, and for some reason this is a deeply unsatisfying number. Don't suppose anyone sat exams as a home educator this year and wants to answer about their experiences?

So my new blog that I’ve only posted here and on threads and not on Twitter has just got its 1000th click in well under 24 hours. This is better than the last blog I wrote and posted on Twitter which took months to reach 1000.
It’s the sister blog to the one posted yesterday.

So they act as a quick reference to overall reading competence, as a check in? Are they done alongside more comprehensive or diagnostic assessments?

Successful unstructured times can be a perennial challenge for many schools. Having looked at OPAL, it looks very promising. What would you say is / was the biggest barrier to it being successful?

For the uninitiated, how have you started using it?

For us - implementing Outdoor Play and Learning OPAL. Significant drop in incidents in unstructured times over each term. Which means less impact on learning time to sort things out. Can see an increase in confidence in their own abilities to solve problems too. #NetworkEdChat

Probably retrieval practice. It was something I'd done without really k owing why and formalising it, but once I understood it more, I could make sure I used it more purposefully. That didn't mean a quiz at the start of each lesson. It is also something rife for some strange mutations, though
